Me and a few buddies of mine are looking to book a trip and are curious as to who the board would recommend. It can be anywhere,Grand Isle, Venice, Delecreaux Island, etc.

Who is the best captain to charter and put us on the fish?

Pick an area first then pick a guide. Time of year is important too.

Cocodrie June through August. Pretty much anyone for specks and reds. I've always been lucky enough to get captain coon in charters and he's great, but he'll drop speck and red trips for tarpon soon.

Charlie Thomason.....I'm sure if you want to fish with him, you gave to request him very far in advance

My advice is to stay away from the big named outfits unless you are guaranteed to fish with the owner. A lot of the big outfits will put you with a shitty guide in the end.

I use Captain Travis Lovell with Reelin-Good Charters in DuLarge. Fished with him just 2 weeks ago and loaded the boat with 23 reds and 15 drum.

I'll second the advice from Me4heisman. A lot of the big name guides out there have several guides and boats in their "network" if you will. Just because you set up a trip with their outfit doesn't mean you will fish with a specific guide unless you request someone specific well in advance. For example, I booked a trip with Bayou Guide Service out of Dularge (Bill Lake), I fished with another captain who runs boats for Bill. The trip was less than spectacular, but I don't think we would have done a whole lot better in Bills boat.

Cap't Coon's sons lil' coon and lee and both excellent. Eugene Foret at Coco Marina is exceptionally good at filling the boat with specs. Joe Schouest is a legend who needs no introduction. Rob Dupont is also good and he fishes the Dularge area a lot.
