How do I get the sharks to leave my damn bait alone at the rigs?

Beef Jerky. Snapper love it. Sharks hate it.

On a serious note; I have never found a way to avoid them. Like hardheads, all you can do is move when they move in.

There is a major difference in making a couple outdoor/ODB related jokes and the assclownery in the OT.

Moving is your only option. Once they start sniffing around they won't stop.

Catch one, cut the belly open and hang it over the side in the water. Sharks hate dead sharks.

Never done it only heard it.

Nah, you just need to learn to spot the lemons among the sharks

for some species, or if you're just trying to fill a limit of any size fish, you can just move. but if you think you're in the right location for a trophy fish (say, for example, you know there are big snapper on a certain rig), you sometimes just have to fight through them. one thing i've noticed though is that they are a lot more likely to take certain baits. fishing a few weekends ago, we caught 3 sharks in a row on cut croaker. put on a squid: snapper every time.

I assume you're supposed to lip the shark when you're cutting its belly...
