Will your affinity for the USNT be mitigated should we ever not be the underdog?

I want us to win a World Cup as much as anyone and I'm a bigger soccer fan than most. Still, I find much of my connection to the NT based on how we play as a longshot. We compete hard as hell and every positive outcome still feels like lagniappe on the biggest stage, even if we certainly possess quasi world class talent at some positions. I wonder if our talent drastically appreciates in the next few cycles and we enter the tournament as a favorite, will the same allegiance still be there?

Obviously, I hope my hypothetical comes to fruition, but as we develop, I wonder if something will be lost if our positive results follow a roster laden with world class talent rather than one that seems to at least subconsciously capture some abstract notion of the American spirit.

I'm drunk, just spitballing.

I don't think my fanhood will be any less but I know it will be less fun following them. It's so awesome to go in with such low expectations. You get rewarded. High expectations end in disappointment.

Well said, and spot on.

However, that hasn't stopped a great multitude of new soccer fans from complaining about everything under the sun in the past 2 weeks.
