Don't read this if you're stupid...

Here's something for all you "brilliant" football analysts to chew on:
I see all these anti-Les Miles fans out there that say stuff like "If we don't win at least two national champioships with all this talent, then Miles should be fired." So let's break down that logic:
First, such a statement assumes that all you have to do is get talent and you should/will win a national chamionship. "Geez, we've had three straight top 10 recruiting classes, if we don't win 2 national championships, Miles is clearly underachieveing." By that logic, Miles is the greatest coach ever because all it takes is recruting - recruit the most talent and you should/must win the NC.
This position is just plain dumb. It fails to comprehend that all of our main competition in the SEC West is also recruting at a very high level. It also fails to understand that high school talent must be developed into NCAA level talent over years through discipline and good coaching. It fails to understand that those who rate high school players (with the utterly ridiculous "star" system) and rank recruiting classes are FAR LESS KNOWLEDGEABLE about football talent than the coaches who actually recruit for major universities like LSU. And most of all, it fails to understand that, even with all the talent in the world, you still have to put the right players in the right situation in during the game in order to win.
So I say: if recruting talent is all that matters, then even if he doesn't win, Les is a great coach because he recruits the best talent.
This is, of course, just as ludicrous of a poition as those who say Miles is a terrible coach because he can't win another NC with all the talent he recruited.
No, fellow fans, the reality is: success in football is the result of a combination of many things: recruting talent, keeping and developing that talent, devising and implementing good offensive and defensive schemes, on-field decision making and adjustment, and a million other things that most fans (including me) cannot even concieve of.
And the reality is that out head coach, like ALL head coaches, is good at some and not as good at others. But measured by his on-field success, he is apparently VERY GOOD at many of these things.
ALL that matters in football - the ONLY measurement of success that matters - is winning. And Miles is BY FAR the winningest LSU coach ever. The LSU program sits at the very top of the college game, a place it has never been before Les Miles. Expecting a national champioship every year is just stupid - no matter how much talent we are able to recruit.
So don't give me the "If Miles can't win championships with this talent, he should be fired." Hell, we HAVE this talent because of Miles. He and his staff recruited, developed, and put them on the field. That's a big part of football success at the college level. Not the only definitive marker of success, but definitley one that Coach Miles is one of the best in the nation at.....

Irrational anti-Miles threads = irrational pro-Miles threads. Both are annoying, IMO.

How do y'all feel the LSU football program has done since that 21-0 embarrassment?

I would take the Cholly Mac run and the Les Miles run and the success they have had over a long period of time over the knee jerk reaction to get rid of a coach just because he may not win a national title - we all know what the alternative looks like - the up and down roller coaster ride of Stovall to Arnsparger to Archer to Hallman to Dinardo.

I blame myself. I Fn knew better than to open a thread with a title that bad.
