Good luck. Don't need to worry about bad neighborhoods really. I doubt you have any reason to end up close to somewhere I'd consider unsafe. It's really boring though if you're younger or especially single. Not really any good restaurants outside of chains. Bars are usually overrun with trash with a few exceptions. I'd say Bar Roussel and Mahonney's aren't terrible. Witch Craft is a pretty neat place to grab a beer, not much atmosphere but a good beer selection. There's nothing really wrong with Houma, but there isn't a lot that's right.

Is your company transferring you? I cannot tell you the number of people I know who lived in houma for a year or two

I moved there from BR about 2-1/2 years ago.
I live in Houston now.

It's a great place if you like to fish, hunt or have some good people you work with. I don't fish much so the first 6 months I was in Nola EVERY weekend.

Traffic is horrible. My commute in Houston is shorter. The foods was great, but not because of the restaurants. It's because of all the home cookin. Surprising amount of cute girls, but you got to get them early. By 23-25, they are already married or divorced and/or have kids.

All in all, I enjoyed it, but after a full year, I was ready to move on.

There are spots on the westside to stay away from too.. if you can afford to, you should rent in any apartments off of MLK blvd..

I wouldn't live in parts of the Lisa Park neighborhood, mainly behind kmart..

Downtown houma near bayou towers is shite.. basically any part of downtown is shite except for extremely close to the hospital and parts across the bayou by legion park off williams ave..

Have Rita's at La casa and then walk across the street and tell everyone your name is Jody. If you can't get laid 4 out of 5 nights then you must be one ugly son of a bitch.

I stayed in Ansley Place and enjoyed it. Its right near everything you would want to do. And easy access to hwy 90.

East side doesn't have much to offer. Grew up there. If I was going to live in Houma again, I'd look out towards that Ardoyne/Bull Run area.

Not a ton in the way of fine dining. Christiano's is good. Cafe Milano was good. Couple others, but not even sure if they are open anymore. The little mom & pop lunch outfits are amazing though... A-Bear's Cafe, Mr. Po-boy (sorry, East side), Jolly Inn, 1921 seafood, Redfish Pizza, Big Al's, Big Mikes BBQ, anything Castalano owns is good... all those come to mind.

There's a few bars. I think my HS classmates actually own a few of them now... No surprise. Mahoney's Pub. Smokey Row used to be a decent place. Aficianado's, but not my style.

Fishing is good. Duck hunting is good. The people are generally friendly and helpful. The public schools suck, but I know people that came out of them that were really smart and did well to move on to professional schooling. There's no better place in the world to live if you are a cardiac patient. The medical community there is very strong.
