I have been watching reports for a year now waiting for Direct TV to announce an agreement with the SEC Network. Still no announcement, I read Direct TV's B.S. statement about the situation. Then I sent them a email. Lucky for me my contract with Direct TV is up in Sept. If I am missing football games I will walk to a competitor that I can see them on.

Those of you with Direct TV here is a link that talks about the SEC Network, you can also email them from the link.

They will get it eventually. Here is what I did. I do something like this with Direct every year. Call them up, ask to speak to someone to disconnect. Tell the person why you want to disconnect. This year it was lack of SEC network. They gave me my NFL ticket for no charge this year. And dropped another $10 bucks from my Bill. Eventually they will cave and sign deal with SEC. Don't go to Dish. Dish sucks. If you must leave and have no faith, go U Verse

Have Cox. Waiting for BS answer from them. They have The Longhorn Network on our Sports Pack now. If they add SEC Network and ditch LHN for even swap that will be fine with me...

Dish doesn't suck, they have just as many HD channels now, cheaper, It has to be a fricking hurricane to lose any signal, easy people to deal with. I have had way more luck with dish over Direct, within a years time I have been very happy with my switch, and now guess what I have SEC NETWORK!

No one has SEC Network yet since the channel is not even launched yet. Your tv provider has agreed to carry the channel when it launches.

I understand, I have Uverse now but I had DirectV for a while for the add on pro sports packages, at some point they will have SECN, just like most every cable co in the SEC footprint that actually wants to stay in business. I guess the question is what can you do until then to get by, for those who aren't really pinching pennies, I would say go ahead and switch to Dish(or Uverse if available) and you can always switch back later, the churn likely won't cost as much as you think since there are usually new customer deals going and you might get some fee's waved just by asking.

Keep in mind every time a customer leaves, it drives those carriers closer to signing a deal with ESPN and every call they get demanding it will be logged.

Att just bought out DTV and its just a matter of time before they strike a deal since they already have a deal with their uverse customers.

i posted this on the OT last week and will paste again here. ive worked in the pay TV satellite business for 12 years, spent 8 with DISH. I go to DISH and DIRECTV corporate once a month and have many friends at both so my sources are pretty legit

I do know for a fact that Mike White(DIRECTV CEO)is personally speaking with the SEC reps weekly and wants to get this done ASAP

my takeaway was that DIRECTV is going to do everything possible and has no plans to not carry it.

not to pull the curtain back too much but one thing you guys don't realize is that DISHs contract was up with ESPN last fall and part of the negotiations with Disney is that dish had to take the Longhorn Network, put ESPNEWS and Disney in HD, and take the SEC network so DISHs hands were tied and they agreed

DIRECTVs contract is up 8/31 with Disney and i expect them to pull the same thing with DIRECTV on the longhorn network and SEC.

1. DIRECTVs contract with the NFL is up this year and thats priority number 1 right now, hands down. the NFL and the SEC Network are not the same in their eyes nor should they be so thats taking top priority at the moment.

2. dont forget AT&T is trying to acquire DIRECTV so that adds a whole other element. sec is already on uverse and part of the deal going through with att is that directv must keep the Sunday ticket

3. this i know for a fact- DIRECTV offered the sec network a package that would include it along with the other regional sports networks for a $7 monthly sports package fee and SEC network said no

they want it as part of the everyday packages with directv and are asking somewhere around $5-7 a month per customer which would mean more money for them.

its a bad move for directv to agree to that because you would charging every customer that amount, including all the people who dont care about the sec.

direct rep told me that if the sec would agree to a seperate sports package for $7 a month they would have done it yesterday so im in directvs corner on this one.

On a side note- if you people only knew how shitty of a company DISH was you would dump them in a minute. Google "worst company in USA to work for". they have finished number 1 two years in a row. they are run by a communist guy Charlie Ergan and the company is a joke.

they have a good product but in the industry nobody thinks of Dish as a better company or product than DirecTV. DIRECTV always has been the target or coke of the TV industry and Dish is the RC Cola or K Mart.

New wireless Genie kills the Hopper hands down. I left DISH on my own terms and still contract with them so no bad blood, its just a shitty company. DIRECTV is a fortune 100 company and not even comparable if you dealt with both on a regular basis

fwiw, all of the stalling and negotiating that is going on is in our best interest...the lower the cost per customer that the provider has to pay the SEC network, the less they have to add to your cable bill...

^ agree 100%

people don't see the big picture and its a no win for DIRECTV.

on one hand if they hold out and don't bend over and let ESPN rape them for wanting to charge $8 per customer for the SEC network, then people bitch and its bad for the industry

however if they just say yes and give in and pass those charges over to the customers bill, then its DIRECTV who is the bad guy for raising your bill

people have no clue how that stuff works, ESPN Is a big bully and trying to get pay providers to charge 400-500% more than the average channel

Some good stuff dallastiger55. Thanks for the input. I have been with DIRECTV for a long time and have stayed so because of NFL Sunday Ticket. I just hope they can get this all worked out before season starts. They have went to bat before for me when I switched to local channels and really screwed myself and Directv got everything reversed so that I could get back to major networks out of New York and Los Angeles. If not for Directv, there is a good shot I would have missed the LSU-Bama 9-6 game in Tuscaloosa. Again thanks for the insight.

not only that but as time goes by, ESPN will load more prime sports events, think UGA vs Auburn or FL vs LSU on to the SECN to drive demand up, it's going to happen, it's just a matter of when.

also as I said earlier in the thread, you can expect some deals, heres an article about Mizzou getting ready for the SECN, note the paragraph near the end where
Dish exec quote there will be new customer promo's starting the 17th of July.

I remember a poster on here said they spoke with a Cox rep who hinted a new channel was coming in August and it was in fact slotted for the SEC network.

What a load of crap. You are wrong on so many things I can't even begin. I would suggest you do a little fact checking and rely less on your personal bias before posting such rubbish.
