Peter Capaldi will star in his first full Doctor Who episode as as the 12th Doctor when the beloved show returns on Aug. 23. BBC America revealed the premiere date on Friday in a dramatic video teaser featuring companion Clara Oswald (played by Jenna Coleman).

"Deep Breath" — the title for the first episode of the eighth season in the revived Doctor Who series — will air Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on BBC America.

Capaldi assumed the role in the final minutes of last year's Christmas special, taking over for the much younger Matt Smith (see video below), but this new episode will officially launch the 56-year-old's run as the 12th Doctor.

Love Doctor Who and my kids are obsessed with it. I'm just starting to go through classic Doctor Who and am enjoying that too.

Can't wait. I think Capaldi will crush the role. I'm getting an angrier, tougher, more alien vibe about him.

I agree. The preview I saw yesterday had Clara saying she didn't even know who the Doctor was anymore.

I wonder if he will pick up the quest to bring back gallifrey, and how far he would go do it.

Where did you find the classic episodes?! Or did you buy them?

They are on Netflix.
If you are in Baton Rouge you can also get them at the library.

There are a few on netflix. Basically one serial from each season. The selection includes some of the best rated episodes but is missing some good ones.

The city of death, on netflix, holds up very well and is one of the best serials, old or new Who. I watched it twice and enjoyed it even more the second time. The caves of andronazi is also on Netflix and very good.

Hulu has a much much larger selection though. That's what I am currently using.

If the first episode is another wand of lazy writing fest then I am done.

I've never seen writers so fracking unable to actually write a plot that isn't 95% Deux Ex Machina.

Isn't it nice to see a show where they actually spend MOST of the time exploring.

Sure the effects could be bad but the stories were good most of the time.

Plus the damn sonic screwdriver was just that. A damn scredriver used to repair things or build things.

I don't see a need to pit old against new. There is good quality writing, plotting, and acting in both old and new.

I'm so excited!

And, Jenna Louise Coleman has showed off her amazing tits before. Google is your friend.

Any watching Karen Gillan's new show on ABC when it comes out? I will because Amy Pond is my obsession.

I tried to watch the trailer for that show and it looked AWFUL. Like I turned it off after 20 seconds. Too much forced wackiness
