2014 College Football Coaches Ranking: Saban #1; Miles #17

Miles never gets any respect but he still wins a ton of games and puts kids in to the NFL

Not that I agree with him being ranked #17 because I do not but I think games like the Rematch with Bama where we just laid an egg. Not saying we should have won but the way it looked was just ridiculous and then top that with the Clock it game at Ole Miss, the T-Bob Hebert saving our butts in the Tenn game and then include the games where we tend to play down to our opponents and you have the recipe for the National Medial ranking him pretty low. Certainly , IMO he should be ranked higher Im just guessing that is what the media is basing their opinion on.

The #17 coach doesn't manhandle Sumlin and Manziel like Miles and his staff have been able to do. Definitely a top 10 coach near the top 5

These lists are so stupid and so subjective. They say if you are starting with a blank slate, who would you hire to lead a program? And you put the scumbag Petrino ahead of Miles? Yikes!

People talk out of both sides of their mouths when evaluating Miles. They say he wins because he has the best players. Well he recruited those players, and that is a big part of being a head coach. Saban recruits better players and never receives the same criticism.

They say he has good coordinators and that means he may not be as good in game planning. It is called delegation. Head coaches have coordinators for a reason, so they don't have to do it. Yet these rankings always tend to favor coaches like Malzahn who call plays.

Speaking of Malzahn, a one year coach is 7 spots higher than a coach that has been winning in the same conference for a decade and beat Malzahn during his only year as a coach.

Petersen won with less talent. But he coached in a conference with even less talent. It is easier to win championships at LSU, but it is just flat out easier to win games when he was at Boise. One or two hard games a year versus 7-8 in the SEC.

Cutcliffe has one miraculous season at Duke and he is on this list? I guess he looks great if you compare his career at Ole Miss to his successor, Orgeron.

James Franklin gets so much praise, but he did coach in the SEC where even the leftover players are better than most programs have. Who couldn't go to a bowl game at Vandy these days with 4 rent-a-wins and playing TN and Kentucky every year. If you win 2 of the 6 remaining games, you finish 8-4.

Would you really start a program with the geriatric Spurrier and Snyder? Wouldn't you want your program to be relevant for more than a couple of years? Petrino never stays anywhere long enough. Meyer must have stock in Samsonite with all of the baggage he brought with him from Florida.

I don't think that Miles is the best coach in the nation. But I think he is one of the best. Bob Stoops coached in a two team conference for almost a decade. All he had to do was beat Texas for years and he was in the national title picture. If he is No. 4, then Miles cannot be far behind, if at all. Read about Stoops and the same could be said for Miles, but Miles coaches in the toughest conference every year and has to face Saban every year.
