No - earlier this week the City Council deferred for one month any decision re Uber being given a permit to operate in NO.

Cops can pull over the drivers and cite them for running an illegal cab service. In fact in San Francisco, I believe Uber/Lyft/Sidecar drivers receive a major fine if they're caught bringing people to/from the airport.

How would they know if the cars aren't labeled

They could probably hang out at the airport and figure it out. Once a few people get fined, word would probably spread.

All cars are supposed to be labeled. Lyft has a giant pink mustache; Sidecar has orange covers that go on your sideview mirrors; and Uber has a U decal that goes on the passenger side of the windshield. It's also pretty obvious when these cars have iPhones mounted on the windshield.

As much as I love Nola, I really hate how corrupt this city is. Uber would be a lot better than the current option.

This isn't just a New Orleans issue. The rideshare services and Airbnb seem to get resistance wherever they try to set up.

I hope it is soon. Last Saturday, the cab I was in had a t shirt draping over the credit card machine and monitor. The driver swore it was broken. I swiped my card anyway. It wasn't broken. Lazy fricks.

Innovation is always met with backlash.

Cable company's are having the same fight with streaming services and are combating it with Net Neutrality.

It will put good hard working taxi drivers out of business. Now anyone can be a taxi driver and it will lower cab drivers wages. It will be the end of the professional taxi driver as we know it.

Get ready for more bums

STFU. Cab drivers are terrible in the city and this is a good thing for the people.

Keep your biased arse out these threads. You already outed yourself the other day.

taxis in new orleans are a joke. the biggest thing is at a certain point at night they all seem to switch to "cash only" and refuse to pick you up if you are paying with a card.

last weekend I lied and said I had cash. when we got to where I was going i pulled out my credit card and started to swipe it. the driver cursed me out, cancelled the fair, and told me to get out.

i got a free ride, so whatever. but how crooked is this shite?

God forbid we get reliable transportation in one of the most crime ridden cities in the US. I just love being stranded in the Quarter at 3am because Mohammed only wants $30+ fares.
