Hahahaaha, this video makes the old timers look like absolute full of crap morons. We were ranked 12, playing a huge rival at the time, bigger then anything we have now, and the stadium is damn near empty from the beginning(when it was about only 70,000) But yeh, yall were sooooooo awesome back in the day

The stadium wasn't damn near empty. Yes, there were alot of empty seats but there is no need to embellish.

Ole Miss was just bad at that time. It was a day game and the fans did on that day much like the fans do today. Another thing to remember is the west upper deck had just opened in 1978 so alot of people who used to sit in the end zones moved to the upper deck.

Old style H goalpost were straight up at the endline. Today they offset behind the endline.

And the section in the north end zone is student section and still empty today before kickoff.

And you might notice the stadium full at the end of the game vs today when most leave during the third quarter.

2 QB system with Woodley and Ensminger could be back with Harris and Jennings. That dazzle dazzle TD play with both QBs in on the play...Ensminger to Woodley to Charles The Great Alexander was a thing of beauty. I can envision Cam Cameron drawing up similar dazzle dazzle with Harris and Jennings. Can't wait for the season.

That's a great old-time video. Thanks for posting.

I loved those ABC games as a kid, loved the way they showed the starters without their helmets on and their hometowns under their names.

"What's more appropriate than Dixie." Yes, there was a time before political correctness ruled.

In those days there were two, maybe three college games televised each week on ABC. Unless a big matchup identified at the beginning of the season (Tex/OU, OSU/Mich), who was going to be on was announced on like the Tuesday before.

This was a scheduled night game and, when moved suddenly to the afternoon for regional television, many folks couldn't make it. I had planned to go, but couldn't get out of a daytime commitment.

Back when ABC wasn't a bunch of PC pussies. Showing Dixie being played at half time and all the rebel flags.

I love the deeper burnt gold of the helmets. The canary yellow still nice but damn that gold is fine.
