Before this turns into a shitfest....

Bith are good. Neither one is better than the other. Do you want full power reverse or instant reverse? Answer that question and then take that motor.

Price is also a small factor. When I was looking a year and a half ago, you could get the same setup in prodrive for about 4-5k less than gatortail. This was for a center console.

How long does the pro drive w/automatic reverse take to get into reverse?

Around 6 seconds if I remember correctly.

Between the 2, I'd probably go PD based on the simpler reserve system. But they're both awesome machines.

But they're both EXPENSIVE machines.

I went to Gator Tail last year and spec'd one out. I was pretty dead set on buying one, but damn, they are freaking expensive. I wanted something to fish and bow fish out of. I think it was about 27k after it was all said and done. That included bow fishing setup with LED's and a trolling motor and a CC.

I just couldn't see spending that much for a bateau with a lawnmower engine. I would still love to have one though. Maybe some day.

I have both at my work.

The Pro Drive reverse is legit however the gator tail runs faster and gets on plane easier with a full load. For me staying out of the dog house getting out of the marsh is my top priority as I tend to get side tracked often.

Same here. I know a guy who works at Gator Tail. I had already been quoted $17,600 for a 18x48 PD center console (no trolling motor). Talked to the guy I knew and he said I was looking at 20k+ for the same thing in Gator Tail.

I ended up with a fiberglass flats boat loaded out with GPS/Depthfinder, power pole, hydraulic jack plate, trolling motor, etc. for $18,500. Adding those things to a Gator Tail would have put me around that 25k-27k mark. I want one, but not for that money.

My cousin had a pro drive for a few years, and I wasn't totally impressed with it.
He didn't have the auto reverse, he had to ratchet the lower unit around manually.
His power trim went out a couple times, and the mufflers rusted away pretty quick.

What kind of boat are you trying to push? You can get something smaller and cheaper with fewer parts to break if you're not trying to push a huge load.

I have a 35 hp Gator Tail 1854 Extreme center console. I love it but It was $27k for the boat with all the options I added. Goes through everything I tried so far. Instant reverse is nice. I didnt go with the PD cause i thought the boats were ugly. PD makes a nice motor though
