One of the most exciting features demoed onstage was Android mirroring. A long time coming, the service – which is in beta and will be incorporated into Google Play Services in a few weeks – lets you to cast your device’s display and audio to Chromecast. That, of course, allows you to play games or navigate around Google Earth on your TV. Mirroring seemed quite responsive - Google built a new protocol explicitly targeting low latency – and everything seemed to work without a hitch, including switching between landscape and portrait and using the phone’s camera.

Unfortunately, mirroring is a hardware-dependent feature – only HTC, Samsung, LG, and Nexus devices will be able to take advantage, at least initially. Bummer.

Hopefully the chrometab/entire desktop cast features get the benefit of the new protocol as well. Those are some of the slower features of the Chromecast IMO, and could be extremely useful if they didn't have that slight delay.

Is this where I come in and say Apple TV and iPhone/iPad/iMac have had this for years already? And that it's sad they're just now getting this and touting it as some great innovative feature? Man that felt good.

But really, for those who haven't been able to do this already and now get to it's a really sweet feature to have. Pulling something so,ething up on your phone or tablet and just throwing it up on your TV is awesome to have handy.

I just wanted to get that out of the way since anything I usually post gets about 15-20 responses worded similarly

Like I said, that's a good thing. I don't have a chrome cast but a friend of mine tried it out and liked it. I mean for 35$ even if it's a total POS (which I know it isn't) it's worth it to find out

If only it would work as a direct connection instead of requiring connection to the Internet through a router.

We're coming up on the year anniversary of Google Chromecast, and I'm a little underwhelmed with its functionality. Being able to cast YouTube and Netflix in HD is great, but I can't help but wonder why more entities (like Amazon and Spotify) haven't designed for it yet.

Well Amazon is sort of a direct competitor. So I can see why they haven't.

ESPN
HBO
Hulu
Netflix
Youtube

Those are certainly all good enough for me.

Plex is the best app that I've ever used too.

This has been available for months via a root tweak on Nexus devices.

Use it quite a bit.

Finally! I was disappointed when I got this and it wouldn't work for movies on my Tab 3. Downloaded a player that did work on it, so wasn't that big a deal.

I also love the idea of not having to be on the same network for it to work. that will make things so much easier.
