Electric Ladyland is by far the best Jimi Hendrix album

Electric Ladyland
Yes, Are You Experienced? was groundbreaking. It just lacks consistency. Axis: Bold as Love sounds a bit overproduced. It was on his third album that Hendrix really found his groove.
Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland?) is the true opener, setting up the airy landscape quite nicely. The 15 minute psychedelic blues jam masterpiece "Voodoo Chile" (couldn't find a link) was supposedly cut at 7 in the morning after a lengthy recording session. It features a young Steve Winwood on organ and Jack Cassady (Jefferson Airplane) on bass. "Little Miss Strange" is probably my throwaway from the album. The trio of "Long Hot Summer Night","Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)" and "Gypsy Eyes" rebound with bouncy, infectious groove coupled with trademark shredding.
Burning of the Midnight Lamp is one of the greatest Hendrix performances; a mini-epic defined by its ethereal wah-wah guitar work. It deserves its due next to All Along the Watchtower and Voodoo Child as true classics.
"Rainy Day, Dream Away" - "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)" - "Moon Turn the Tides...Gently Away" is a stunning suite that sees Hendrix taking advantage of his new recording studio and of the album format itself. Clearly heavily jazz-influenced, it shows a side of Hendrix that hadn't been seen before. Is this the direction that he was headed in?
Anyway, 10/10. Hendrix's best and one of the best by anyone.

I prefer the original cover.
BTW, it's NSFW so don't google it.

fricking great album. Hard for me to say it is "by far" better than Are you Experienced?, but depending on my mood on a given day, I'd be inclined to agree.

The vibe of Electric Ladyland is just perfect. It is one of the first (outside of some Beatles, Pet Sounds, maybe Tommy? ) to really sound cohesive without the songs sounding too similar.
eta: and superlatives are fun

I'm reading this right now and I recommend it to Hendrix fans who want to go beyond the persona to an in-depth discussion of how he created his music, who he played with and when. If you read it, I suggest you have the tunes playing while the author is describing the various passages. It helps.

Band of Gypsys is my favorite Hendrix album.
Btw, serious fans of Hendrix really need to check out his blues album. That live version of Hear My Train Comin' is

Hard for me to choose between Electric Ladyland and Axis: Bold as Love. Both are outstanding.
Not sure if you have listened to People, Hell and Angles but it's damn good. It's mixed really well, not overly produced and kept that true Hendrix sound.

I love that albums version of Bleeding Heart, Isabella, and Hear My Train a Comin'
I prefer Axis over Electric, but it's not like it's by a wide margin. They both stand up well. I'll always be biased to Are you Experienced? just because that's the first record I found in my dad's collection that really spoke to me, I used to spin it over and over. Good memories.

Give First New Rays of the Rising Sun a listen. I'll bet a fiddle o' gold against your soul there's 5 Hendrix songs you've never heard on that album. Swing back by after that and lemmeknoh if your opinion changed.
PSA: This is a posthumous album, if your sticking to his 3 'living' albums then yes...your categorizing of Jimi's best work into 1 album could be considered accurate.

Well, yeah, mainly because Jimi produced it and didn't have Chas Chandler looking over his shoulder the whole time. Doesn't hurt that it was a double, either. Not much filler at all. Most people don't realize that all of his studio records came out within 17 months. That's a staggering thought.

My favorite Hendrix Dylan cover.
When he showed up at Monterey he was a bit of an unknown.
After this everyone knew who the frick this guy was.
