Quick question - what was the riff between Eleanor Holmes Norton and Issa?

I saw most of the hearings yesterday, but I missed ELN's questioning. I got back in the room just at the end and it seemed she and Issa were at each other's throats over something she had said in her questioning.

Was this just normal DEM posturing, or was it more significant than just blaming the lack of funds and being mean ol' gopers?

And blaming Bush.

All of the Dems had the same talking points. Budget and Bush. Nothing more complicated than that.

I didn't see it, but Issa got owned by the Dem who can't think for himself and reads everything from prepared talking points...

He quoted Issa from 07-08ish in which Issa basically said that with technology, shite happens in regards to Bush's WH mislabeling and "losing" emails.

I saw that exchange.

was wondering about the rep from DC - Eleanor Holmes Norton (I think that is her name.)

As for the Bush admin e-mails, it was my understanding they were not lost and were produced as requested.

I watched about 75% of the hearing and at one point Norton apologized to the IRS commissioner for how he was being treated.

I think I watched over 90% of it and the DEMs all apologized - it was like they were planning on being POTUS and honing their apologizing skills.

I thought Cummings was going to cry. impressive.

This is my understanding as well - they tried "the dog ate my homework", but the IT people or whatever said, "We have backups."

This is just smoke because the Dems really have only 1 card to play with their guy's lack of any real record of accomplishment, "But.but.but - BUSH!"

The man looks as if he doesn't entirely understand what's taking place around him. Good bet Pelosi has him there as a frick you to the republicans.

No, they weren't produced as requested... Took forensics and whatnot to get them, but they got them.

I kept wanting that smug IRS guy to man up and say "stop apologizing!" However, his balls have been cut off like the rest of the people in the room. Not a smidgeon of backbone anywhere.

fair enough.

I thought the situation was a simple error in labeling - was there ever any incident of trying to NOT produce the e-mails?

They just went to the backup system = and sure it took some time because of the inherent inefficiency of govt systems, but the backups performed their purpose.

Not true in the IRS scenario.

This, and they were never "lost." They were on an outside server hosted via the RNC, so technically were not subject to FOIA since they weren't on a government server. And they didn't get them until 2009 when Bush had already left office. A similar incident happened under Clinton though not with emails. Some classified documents were "lost", only to be found once he left office. I suspect these emails will magically be found once Obama leaves office.
