I've noticed a lot of people calling T. Howard the GOAT US keeper

Does anyone here agree?

The answer is obviously Friedel.

I think Guzan is neck and neck with Howard. Haven't seen timmy play badly at all in the cup so I'm not bitching about it, but Guz is an absolute beast in the net

Friedel's run in WC 2002 was better, but Howard's career has been better. That's getting really nit-picky because both are pretty much equal with Keller in the mix too.

Yeah it's a tough call.

I'd probably take Friedel simply because his performance in the 2002 WC was GOAT material.

Howard is the model of consistency, tho. He rarely gives up a soft goal.

Friedel set the premier league record for consecutive appearances, if we're talking consistency.

I love what Friedel did for us and do think he is overall the best keeper the US has ever produced, but his performance in 2002 was not much different than what Howard did in 2010 or Meola in 1994.

Yeah, I would never say Howard isn't consistent. Howard is a solid keeper - very few lowlights.

For some reason I remember Friedel making more spectacular saves than Timmy.

Again, the WC 2002 alone has to tilt it to Friedel. Still hate is cheesy british accent now tho

I like Howard a lot. Don't want to make it seem like I'm bashing him

I think they are pretty equal today.

Howard may be the GOAT, but it would really just be nitpicking. Howard, Friedel, and Keller are interchangeable to me. Meola was before my time (I was 6 in 1994) so I can't really comment on him.

I think the US has been very blessed with the talent of keepers we have had.

Just wait till it's Guzan's turn for the USA. He is a beast. Obviously he won't get mentioned in GOAT talk because he won't play with the USMNT very long, but if Howard decides to hang it up after this WC, we will still be in good hands.

That's how we Americans roll - we grow up using our hands to play sports. We are a country built for good GKs (which should continue into the future).

Yeah, I think he had another penalty save vs. Poland as well. The one save he had vs South Korea was epic bc it was a good penalty and he did the fake-out move...

Regardless of your opinion, I don't think the answer is "obvious." It's certainly debatable. My vote goes to Howard. It's a close race, though.

It's obvious if you know what you're talking about. Which you obviously don't.

Probably the one position the World legitimately respects us at. Friedel and Howard are the only Americans to start for a 5 start club (Liverpool and Man United)
