I exchanged several emails with the company owner regarding possible emolument. Scheduled a phone interview today, but the call was never made. I'm currently employed and was not actively searching for new employment. Appeared to be a great job with generous pay. Should I call or email this guy asking about the status of the job? How do I word it? TIA.

Why didn't you call them when it was apparent they weren't calling.

Send him a bill for the time you spent waiting for his call.

He made it clear in his emails that he was going to be calling me. He also noted he was going to be out of the office and didn't give out his cell.

Well he obviously didn't. I would've called his office or something.

He didn't email you at all today either?

No email or call. Pretty bizarre being that he sought me out after discussions with some of my former colleagues and professional connections.

Definitely follow up. If he's changed his mind, fine. Do it under the guise that you wanted to make sure you didn't miss some communication from him.

If you were desperate I might say use caution in pressing the issue, but who cares here. Just be polite, obviously.

I'd definitely email and ask what happened in a polite manner. Maybe say that you just wanted to make sure that you didn't miss his call.

ETA: Dang, we were on the same page, Pettifogger.
