Read this in Armchair Analyst

quote:

In their last four games – two friendlies and now the two group stage games – the US have conceded four goals after the 80th minute

What gives? Fatigue? Focus? Bad luck?

Troubling trend. Got to fix it.

I didn't get the Gonzalez move. Looked like a ? in the send off matches. And whether it has been partially in fault of his or not, when we've gone to the 3-man center back unit, we have allowed two goals in 15 minutes.

Jürgen made the same sub in the Gold Cup Final last year against Panama. It worked then but that was a different backline.

A more helpful sub would've been to take out Zusi and put in someone like Johannsson just to run around those last five minutes.

How the frick do you allow some one behind the defense??

there should of been 2 guys standing in the box. making sure nothing got crossed in.

Instead, they got beat back, fricking horrible.

It was a disaster all around. I thought Bradley had a good game, but that was a catastrophe of a mistake. If he just hoofs it we win the game.

Also too many people forward overall. The back line was too high, but the one thing I would say is that even in that situation, I'm not sure that you expect Ronaldo to put in an early cross.

When he got the ball and was in space against Beasley, I thought oh shite he's going to take him on and get wherever he wants. I didn't think, he's about to put in a beautiful early ball.

My analysis of the whole sequence could be marred by the fact that I only saw it live and refuse to ever watch it again

Read Zonal Markings assesment

quote:

There are various places to point the finger – Bradley shouldn’t have lost possession so cheaply with a minute remaining, for example – but the wider problem is the USA’s tendency to react too much to the game state. Throughout their opening two matches they’ve showed some great attacking play when behind, or drawing. They started brilliantly against Ghana, and responded superbly to conceding an equaliser – but during the period they were ahead, they sat extremely deep and invited so much pressure.

Similarly, in this game they were excellent for long periods when needing a goal, but then immediately conceded the midfield ground when ahead. It’s almost like they need someone to shout out that old Sunday League call of “Still 0-0, lads!” after a goal, and continue to play their usual game, regardless of the scoreline.

Anti-Bob Ball is not fun.

That's fair enough in general, but it doesn't really apply to that exact sequence.

Also, when Beckerman gets caught up field, he gets exposed, big time. He gets away with it in the MLS, but the speed on international clubs are beating him like rug.

Fabian has to tell Cameron about the run, but my god Cameron was so lazy on that play it is unbelievable. I don't care if he didn't see him, when the cross was played Cameron was jogging then he saw the guy beat him, and tried cut him off.

also Turkey was caused by Chandler giving the ball away in the penalty area and Nigeria was a pk, Ghana was gonna break through it was a matter of time. Portugal should have been prevented

He was but the Jungle will do that to you.. the finishes there have been pretty tough all around. It wasn't like Portugal was killing it at the end. Its a lot easier to make that last run forward than back towards your goal

so i was like 9 when i first heard someone do this and i really wanted to yell it for my team. it was gonna be the coolest thing ever, obviously. some time weeks later we score a goal in a tournament and it pops into my head and im just like frick yeah, now is the time, here we go.

"Still 0-0, guys!" i yell, with the score tied 1-1.

not an excuse, Cameron showed no hustle to get back and slowed down even more at the top of the box and got beat because his lack of effort right there.

video

he still has 5 yards on the guy, if he keeps jogging like he does he probably doesn't get beat, but then he slows down he even more. Complete lack of hustle and a mental breakdown on his part
