Which college team or pro franchise does USA soccer remind you of?

USA soccer has never been great, but has been kinda good at times. There is no history of championships; fans are just pretty content to see how far the team can get and be happy with that. They might even have a little success and get your hopes up and just when it looks like they are about to do something big, something happens to knock them back a rung. Did I hear correctly today that this would have been the first time they ever started 2-0 in the World Cup? They just can't seem to get out of their own way sometimes.
In my mind, this kinda reminds me of the Saints, pre-Super Bowl era. Bum almost got them to the playoffs once...but the Rams beat the Saints on a last-second FG in the last game to eliminate them. Then Mora has some good teams, but they were snake-bit in the playoffs and in each playoff loss it seemed like some weird play or bad break happened. It was like they couldn't stand success.
Others?

I'm gonna get a ton of shite for this, but it reminds me of Arkansas football

Lsu football .....the last 4 /5 of our losses came on last minute drives by the opponent .....
Even though soccer was a tie. ....

Sparty Football.
Usually a good defense and offense that can be anemic but just squeek by at times.

But LSU has a history of championships...so they don't fit what I was looking for...but I get where you are coming from

I got ya ..... Your saints comparison is spot on .....
Just the way they let it slip away at the end , felt really familiar ....

Boise State. Good, but not elite. They surprise people by going toe to toe with the big boys, but won't win any championships.

Dan Mullen era Mississippi State. They beat every team they should beat. Against the big boys, they usually hang tough; but at the end they always come up short.

Arkansas- once every 4 years the country pays attention for a week

Carolina panthers. Even when they're really good, you question just how far they can go. They pulled a great season with the SB berth but then they had the game they threw like 5 picks in. They're conistenty good enough to be okay.

The Panthers came up a FG short of winning the Super Bowl. I doubt the USMNT would ever come that close.

I did think of that. USMNT may not come that close anytime soon. That Panther team surprised a lot of people too. That's the main reason I lumped them in there.

Missouri football, no history, no championships. Make you think they may have something every couple years, only to rip your heart out through your dick

Texas A&M recently. Up and coming program who has won some big games, has a weirdly loyal and a strange fanbase that thinks they are the best
