Nothing real profound here, but are we not a divided nation politically? How did we get here?

I am amazed by people's comments from political headline /stories freely airing the words, "Liars, idiots," and the like when describing the President of the United States and or their administrations. I'm equally amazed by comments in full support by a bunch of political homers...just depends on the link, website and followers and how they vote. It's so predictable, very little objective criticism, always extreme one way or the other.

I just read the link Tuba provided on the missing Emails from the Bush Era dating back to 2009. The left wing sound exactly like today's Right while commenting on Obama and this IRS scandal (just pick any scandal, it's the same). A lot of anger with the 'I told you so" attitude. Yes, I am guilty too...but am trying to tame my tongue because divisiveness hurts all of us.

I'm a conservative, I voted for Bush and liked him as a person by how I perceived his core character...I genuinely felt he was a decent guy, not the best speaker, served adequately , far from the best America could elect. I thought he was a huge spender and probably took the war in the East too far. Because I voted for him I wanted to believe his motivation was to protect the interest of our country. So I defended the R party agenda to move forward into Iraq. Hmmm, now I wished we hadn't done that.. what a mess going on there now...what to do or not do. So much money, so many lives

US soil was attacked first on 911 and the America people demanded a stiff response. And under Bush, the US certainly did that while the Democrats felt we should "Talk" and have full UN approval and support.

It's easy to look back and criticize and identify mistakes. I am no Obama fan, I fundamentally disagree with his understanding on the role of the Federal Government relative to solving many of our challenges .

Certainly we deserve to be told the truth which comes into question so often. I think we all believe a lot of information is withheld from us for political gain or to hide massive mistakes (no matter the president).

Don't most of us believe "the Truth will set you free"?... but our top leaders seem to get the same advice "Deny deny deny, until it goes away".

That's what it seem anyways but is it true? And round and round we go the political table, either tossing stones or loyally defending all the while never getting all the facts or knowing any of these leaders off camera.

I am troubled that we defend political parties and individual leaders we really know very little about and conversely tear them down by typing all kinds of nasty things if they are the "other side" of the isle.

Certainly i'ts ok to disagree with each other, but is it ok to describe others we disagree with as liars and idiots?

Accountability is needed, but done with respect.

With our divisive nature in politics today, we get neither accountability or respect.

How do we get back to being civil?

We need unity versus inflaming one another...obviously we care...

.....unjustified white guilt. It prods people into doing things...enacting laws that they know are wrong.....just to make THEMSELVES feel better. It has transformed us from the self sufficient society we once were to this 'entitlement society" that in which we now live.

That would contradict the mantra of the left...
"By any means necessary."

So, do liars and idiots not exist? If they do, why is it wrong to describe them truthfully?

Sure they do, but is it ok to do so before all the facts are known?

Why would you be amazed? Obama is a proven liar.

The "Deny deny deny, until it goes away" took off under Clinton, I know other Presidents tried it as well, but remember it was Nixon's own party that went to him and told him he had to go, they would not fall on their sword to protect him.

Under Clinton the Democrats literally whored themselves to "protect" their power base, they knew if Clinton pulled a Nixon it might have a negative affect on their own power, Clinton provided the blue print and others took notice.

I'm with you OP. Much of it is where the money is swaying from. We need to focus on candidates of quality with best interests that are not financially motivated. It's very difficult to sort through that minutiae. If we do we may come back to a closer equilibrium, but no current relief is in site.

The facts cannot be known. They were destroyed by the liars.
