The overwhelmingly positive stories to come out about Tony Gwynn got me thinking about how well liked he was. Nowadays it is hard to think of an athlete who is as well liked as he was.

Uhh no. During the 3-peat Shaq was very much hated. Kobe was well liked. It didn't flip until a few years later

Sir Charles really? I know plenty of auburn fans that hate his racist arse. Gretzky, Mike Trout,David Robinson, Barry sanders, and Altidore.
