Jacksonville Beach Places to Stay

I'm looking at an extended weekend to Jacksonville Beach for the wife (no pics) and I and need opinions on ocean front hotels.
Is this a good area for a relaxing/ extended weekend?
We do the Gulf Shores/ Destin areas several times a year, as they are in driving distance. This trip to Jacksonville would include a direct flight from NOLA and somewhere on the beach for down time. I'm also considering the Miami area, but this trip would be the Labor Day weekend and also keeping storm season in mind. A storm can also travel up the East coast, but I'm thinking Jacksonville Beach has less odds of a canceled trip than Miami would.
Any suggestions here?

One Ocean Resort
This hotel is beachfront and within walking distance to a large cluster of bars and fine dining. The beach area walking north from the hotel is where my FIL lives. It is high end and all residential to the north so no riff-raff.
Jax Beach is getting better but I still think it is trashy.
Fernandina Beach is a cool town and the Ritz is one of the best resorts in the nation.
St. Augustine is a cool town worth exploring. Ponte Vedra Beach is nice and The Lodge or Sawgrass Marriott are good options there.
I highly recommend the place I linked just because the many bars, brewpubs and dining options you can walk to.

Man, that looks pretty awesome.

Stayed there a bunch. Great bar in lobby, forget the bartenders name but damn he can mix em up. Beach is fugly, pool is pretty small, a few decent places to eat and a couple bars and a few shops make it a cool place to stay for a day or two. Rooms and bathrooms are pretty small but nice and trendy.
St Augustine is a fun outing

The town itself is fine. Saw some women playing volleyball in the center of Flagler's campus. IMHO, the beaches in St Augustine suck though. Stayed at a beach house on Vilano beach and went for a walk barefoot. Cut up my feet. Worse than walking on glass. St Augustine beach is better, but not much. Way, way too many shells in my opinion to be worth it.

I will be there next month visiting family. They live two blocks from One Ocean. We use the GEM car to run around the beach area. Enjoy your trip.

DONT DRINK ON THE GOD DAMN BEACH

I'll make it easy. Either stay at One Ocean ($300 a night) or the Courtyard by Marriott in Jax Beach. One Ocean is awesome and the town center right here is great for restaura ts and nightlife. Come to Atlantic Beach. Jax Beach is trashy and dangerous.

Dont listen to B&B. His dumb arse doesnt realize you can just open carry out here. Put it in a cup and you're good unless you act like a dick. Also, do t go to Jax Beach where they have nazi cops due to all the tattoos and affliction.

I have never had a problem since I lived there from 1990 (and re-visit multiple times a year due to family). I use koozies, solo cups or tervis tumblers. Not a big deal unless you are trash or in trashy areas.
ETA: B&B lived in one of the shittiest parts of Jax and apparently hung out in the shitty part of Jax Beach.

No I got a citation on the beach and he said he should arrest me but didn't want to drive all the way downtown. I'm not kidding
It was cans and not bottles. And I had just gotten there and wasn't acting a fool

Is Pete's Bar still kicking? It was my go-to dive bar.
