quote:

Nagin had sent out a blast email to some of his former staff asking if they would send in letters on his behalf. Six of the former officials in his administration did write to the judge, including his former chief administrative officer Dr. Brenda Hatfield, who testified during his trial earlier this year.

This is common for any sentencing and is heightened when it's a public figure.

That's fine. All I was saying is during sentencing hearings it is common for those on the side of the convicted to ask the judge for leniency. And you hear about this is greater detail when it's a public figure.

Option to write asking for a harsh sentencing is always there too.

Ray Nagin was at a restaurant here in Houston that my friend manages. Owner comes out to greet him and be nice. Asks Ray Ray
'What brings you to Houston, mr mayor?'
'I'm here to turn Houston chocolate.'

I shite you not. What a POS.

I'm unsure whether the goal of that piece was to highlight the 32 people who wrote on Nagin's behalf in an attempt to show how loved Ray Nagin is or to shame the people supporting that piece of shite. I did notice that the piece sure as hell didn't list the address that Ray Nagin blasted out to his friends. It seems to me that there would be a lot of people in New Orleans that would have been interested in that address so they could write to the judge to ask that Ray Nagin get a maximum sentence.

Either way, I've got the over at 17.5 years on a bet I made when that piece of shite was convicted. Federal judges don't frick around and the best Edwards could manage with a federal court when he was convicted was 10 years. Ray Nagin does not have Edwards level connections.
