Soccer would be a MUCH better spectator sport if one or two players were dropped from each side. 10 or 9 instead of 11 would open up passing lanes, and allow for play development that's almost non-existent under the too-crowded present rules. Also, individual player athleticism would become more critical and star power would be enhanced.

As it stands, the game is a dud. Imagine 20 players to a side and you'd get scores that aren't much foreign from what occurs now.

I don't find 2-1 matches boring at all.

There's been a lot of scoring this World Cup.

They might as well. It's not like we'd miss anything considering nothing of note happens during 95% of the match.

Meh.

Today's game was an exception because Suarez can actually punch the ball in the net, but most soccer scoring appears happenstance rather than the result of strategy.

2-1 matches would actually be MORE exciting if the average score were something like 4-3. We could then appreciate some exceptional defense instead of the EXPECTED defense of allowing only zero or one goals.

just because you don't see/understand what's going on, that doesn't mean nothing is happening.

You probably just don't like soccer. Which is fine. My advice would be to not watch it.

I entered the World Cup telling myself I was going to try and watch a lot of it, but it's been very boring so far. The USA games and championship are probably all I'll watch moving forward.

I dont know enough about soccer to disagree with your point about dropping players BUT

the rest of the world seems to disagree with you on this point.

I'm not saying the game can't be improved, but calling the most popular game in the world a dud seems wrong IMO

Soccer scoring = Guy kicks the ball near the net and it deflects off of somebody and then it just happens to land near the foot of one of his teammates who then luckily is able to kick it in.

Just keep kicking the ball to the middle near the net and eventually you'll get a lucky bounce that will result in a goal.

What a brilliant sport.

The only thing that matters is the score. For example, this current match between Greece and Japan has been going on for 43 minutes... and it's 0-0.

It's the same score since the game started. Nobody has scored.

Therefore, nothing OF NOTE has happened.

They've been strategically kicking the ball around for 40+ minutes with nothing to show for it.

That's a pretty simplistic POV regardless of the sport your apply it to

ETA For example it implies that a football game with the score of 52-24 was more exciting than one with a score of 21-17.

Been pretty entertaining IMO. Personally I think Soccer should do away with offsides but I'm not enough of a fan to give a shite.

Also not true.

I enjoy defensive struggles just as much as shootouts in all sports. My enjoyment of sports is not defined solely by the act of scoring. If that's not the case for you, that's fine, but your perspective is not the only one.
