HEADQUARTERS - NEWS RELEASE
June 19, 2014
LSP to begin Online Application Process for Concealed Handgun Permits
Baton Rouge, LA- The Louisiana State Police Concealed Handgun Permit Unit is responsible for issuing and managing concealed handgun permits statewide and processed over 26,000 applications in 2013. In an effort to expedite and improve the application process, citizens can now utilize the Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit website to submit an online application. The online application creates a more efficient process and when properly utilized applicants can expect to receive their permits quicker than when submitting the traditional paper application packets.
As part of the online application, applicants must have a valid email account to receive a unique application number to be used throughout the process and are not required to submit payment for the permit until the application has been reviewed for eligibility and completeness. Once accepted, applicants will receive the payment instructions through an official email allowing them to submit payment online.

this is good news

i've been putting off my application without a good reason, mainly because I haven't been to a notary

which begs the question...do we have to get anything notarized with the new process?

I'm not sure. You have to walk through the app to see I guess.

If I had a vote, Id vote no, we all should suffer equally. The extreme anxiety and euphoric anticipation of that card arriving in the mailbox, each afternoon, for months was the apex of the emotional psychoticickses of ones innermost chords of desire, want and need to touch, feel and hold one bittersweet piece of small, tiny in fact, but huge and extroidinary pieces of plastic known to mankind, through history.

YES. I literally shite my pants when it came in. I was actually happier for that than my first sbr stamp. And that took 11 months. CC permit only took 3 if I remember. It changed my life.

I think this is part of the reason they have been backed up. It's been in the works for a while

Of maybe it was just LA being LA...

Unfortunately, I am still waiting on mine(since November). Dad called the LSP HNIC to ask what was going on. They are supposed to be clearing it up by the end of the week. Hopefully it gets done soon because I have been carrying 12 hours a day since last week.

Called last week and I was told that Sgt King, the woman who processes them, just wasn't doing anymore at the time. It is awesome for her because her lazy fricking arse took a 3 week vacation earlier in the year right after the computer system got reworked and they started backing up. My app is still sitting in a pile of unprocessed apps on her fat arse's desk

Mine has been expired for about a year now. How long does it take to get one if you are already in the system?

I'm assuming they do them in the order they come in but that's just dumb. Yall don't feel left out, I sent mine off Feb 5th of 2013 and I got it back in Dec.

I will say I called them 3 times and they were very nice each time and looked mine up and let me know where I was in the process. I think they are very understaffed. I would hope they get them some more help because it is ridiculous to have to jump through the hoops they require with fingerprints and crap just to carry a gun. In principle it's great, but the idea someone that wants to commit a crime or do harm wouldn't carry one anyway is insane and the delay only prevents law abiding citizen from protecting himself and his family.

ETA: I got on my soap box and forgot to say, glad it's changing. They need to get much more efficient. I will get the lifetime or whatever they started to offer a while back when I renew.

Damn, it only took mine about 20 or so days. I handed it in person if that made any difference.

Shelly, we're among friends, bodily functions are a natural part of life, but still, you don't need to be so overtly crass.

Yup, gave them everything including the minutes from arrests. I've called once a month since January and they say the same thing every time. I guess I should've known what was in store when I had to count on a state worker to do their job

You can mail the fingerprint cards in or still go to LSP HQ and get printed.

Well then that makes the online application pointless.

Well you are inputting your stuff into the system instead of waiting on them to do it. I wouldn't call that pointless.
