So we live in La, have a 2006 ford car and a 2010 ford truck, clean records, have been with progressive for 10+ years and pay $171/month in car insurance premiums. 250/500/100 coverage, $500 comp/$1000 collision deductible.

Is our current premium in line with what we should be paying?

If not, how can I reduce the premium/who could give me better prices?

Best way to find out is to shop around. Call a couple insurance companies to do a few quotes. Saying you live in Louisiana doesn't really do much. You'd need to be more specific.

If you look at State Farm or Allstate I'm sure we have a bunch of agents on this board that could advise you with each product.

Your auto insurance premium depends on so many different factors. The 1 square mile radius from your home even matters. If there are any dangerous intersections, curves, or other risk factors on roadways near your home, that will be taken into account inside your premium. To a small extent, even the driving records of those around your home matter.

Do you have life/homeowners/renters/etc insurance through someone else? If so, check with that agent and get some quotes. There are so many variables. Get a few quotes and you can see where you stand.

From Geico:

250/500/250
07 GMC Sierra
Liability, Collision, and Comp ($500 deductible)

$58 per month.

This isn't an O/T post, either. It dropped from $83 to $58 when I moved houses.

I believe it. When I had my 2012 CRV with same limits, I paid 81/mo.

Looks like I'm near in line with those. The $171 is two vehicles. And I live on a highway so that might hurt me too.

Just looking for ways to cut cost...

Geico was the cheapest for me and basically everyone I speak to about insurance. Get a quote from them.

Can you afford to pay for 6 months at a time? Progressive gives a pretty decent "paid in full" discount. I think mine was around 15%.

Hmm, I can... That would drop my cost the equivalent of $145/month. I'll take that!

I pay $63 month. And that includes my renters insurance and misc. personal items. But my ride is an antique.
