Spam being sent from my yahoo mail account

First off, I am up to date with AVG and run Spybot and malwarebytes.
I have had a problem over the past few months of spam being sent out to all my contacts from my yahoo account. I had changed my password multiple times (after running all spyware and antivirus) and the problem persisted. I had put two and two together and realized that this started happening after installing the yahoo mail app on my iphone.
I deleted the app and changed my password again. The spam stopped. All has been fine for 2 months or so.
I woke up today checked my mail to find that another spam went out this morning. Running scans now but I have never found anything in all my attempts to track this down.
Has anyone else run into problems with yahoo mail or phantom spambot's? May need to migrate to a different email acct...

Put a bogus entry in your address book to a non-existent address at your e-mail provider. You'll get a notification of non-delivery almost immediately so you'll at least know when something is taking over your account. I use AT&T mail which is handled by yahoo and have never had a problem. Stop visiting so many porn sites.

Good idea, although I would really like to know what is causing this. I have run every malware software I can think of and never get any hits. I am curious if this is some exploit on yahoo's end.

I've gotten those from my wife's ymail a couple of times.

My wifes friend had spam go out from her yahoo acct as well. I find it very odd that this started happening after i installed the yahoo mail app on my iphone.
I am now at a point that i can barely remember what my password is since I have changed it so many damn times now.

I get these yahoo spam mails from other people from time to time. Does your anti-virus do real-time checking of your e-mails? Sometimes you have to enable that in the anti-virus settings. FYI, I use Mozilla e-mail client and Trend Micro security package.

I use the web-based client.
Oddly enough I cleared out all of my contacts and exported them to my desktop a few months ago. The spam this morning had many of my contacts from before I deleted my whole contacts list. I can't imagine it is scanning through my emails to get email addresses to send it to (can it?).

Do you see the messages in your Sent folder? If not, do you only know that they are sent when the recipients notify you, or do some bounce back, or what? Can you ask one of the recipients to check the headers of the email to determine the true origin of the email? Since you changed your password, chances are they don't actually have access to your account anymore, if they ever did. It's possible that the spammer somehow accessed your address book, and is just spamming your contacts and making the emails appear to come from you. If this is the case, there isn't really much you can do about it.

There are no sent messages in my sent folder. In the past people would notify me, but I would usually get emails that were bounced back anyway. This morning it had sent an email to my address as well so I got the email from myself and saw the list of everyone else as well.
Good point about the possibility of them just having my contact list and spoofing my name with it. I will do some digging.
ETA: Damnit that is exactly what they are doing now. The email came from dps@sbap.co.in with my name...

change your password. make up a sentence with numbers and turn it into an acronym.
and stop going to unsecured porn sites

Yep, I've been getting one every couple of months. I tried to help her stop them, but there is really no way once they have your contact list. I just have to delete them.

It can be, but there are a few ways to make it more bearable.
Create a gmail account, and set it up to check your old yahoo mail so you don't miss anything. Set up a filter that sends out a canned response to the effect of "my address has changed to whatever@gmail.com, please update your address book" to anyone who sends email to your yahoo account. Gmail when then dutifully keep reminding your contacts to update your address, and the mails sent to your yahoo address will dwindle over time.

This. It's amazing how many of these spam emails come from Yahoo.
Gmail will solve your problems. If you want to keep your old email address active, have your Yahoo account forward to your new gmail account. Gmail's spam detectors will filter out the bad guys pretty well.
