How about some better allocating skills with the money that is taken in. Man I hate politicians.

People are driving less per capita and cars are more fuel efficient, keeping revenues fairly flat.
SO - they mandate more fuel efficient vehicles, use the projected savings as a selling point to a generally tax averse population, THEN complain that their tax revenues aren't big enough, so they need to raise it.
And that's the federal tax - states want to charge us by the mile driven now, so "frick you and your Prius."

The plan offered by Sens. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., and Bob Corker, R-Tenn., would raise the 18.4-cents-a-gallon federal gas tax and 24.4-cents-a- gallon diesel tax by 12 cents each over the next two years, and then index the taxes to keep pace with inflation.
Finally, bipartisanship on something.
Reading the article brings up a question - if revenues are less because cars are getting better mileage then how in the hell will the government keep up to snuff with revenues if more people start going electric? Something tells me the government will figure out a way to monitor your "plug-in" in your garage and tax you on how much 'tricity that outlet is used for.

And how much money do we send overseas? Can we cut that back a little.

But Obama promised the new CAFE standards would help save money for Americans.

I propose that this two frickers be voted out of office.

I'll call your 2 frickers and raise you 5 more frickers.

Well then let's just vote them all out. It's what needs to happen.

Right, cause they can't find any money out of all the trillions they are currently wasting.

I prefer pay for use taxes infinitely more than income tax. At least you are given a choice when it comes to paying gas tax. (Choose to drive less/drive electric/buy more fuel efficient vehicle).
This is coming from someone who drives a Tahoe btw.

People on here do realize that the gas tax is almost the perfect USE tax? (which is IMO the best form of taxation)
The gas tax has been 18 cents for 30 years. It's about time they change it.
Let the people that drive all the damn time pay for all the damn road repair.

Wouldn't people being paying more in their monthly electric bills as well?

I'm a fan of use taxes. Now just get rid of the income tax and I'll support this.

So what do you do about the gas/electric and just electric cars using the same road as the gas cars?
I do agree with the use tax.

quote:No. The federal tax on fuels is intended to fund highway construction and maintenance. You can get a credit for taxes paid on fuel that is used for business purposes off highways. Simply fill out Form 4136 reporting the number of gallons purchased for off highway business use and you get a credit for the federal tax paid equal to the $0.183 tax per gallon collected at the pump.
