T-Mobile launches Music Freedom: no data cap hit for Spotify, Pandora etc.

(T-Mobile doesn't charge overage fees, but throttles data speeds once users reached prescribed limits.) The list of Music Freedom-compatible services currently includes Pandora, Rhapsody, iHeartRadio, iTunes Radio, Slacker, Spotify, Samsung's Milk, and the forthcoming streaming service from electronic music destination Beatport. It'll also be taking votes from customers through its website and on Twitter for other services to add to the list of exemptions.
It sounds wonderful — and right in line with the "uncarrier" image that firebrand CEO John Legere has worked so hard to cultivate — but it's a terribly slippery slope: T-Mobile has decided, arbitrarily, that some of the data traveling over its pipes should count against a cap, while other data should not. What's to stop it from using data cap exemptions as a punitive measure against content providers that aren't on good terms with T-Mobile (or its parent company Deutsche Telekom)?

yep, if only they could speed up building their infrastructure to be more competitive in the 4g/5g market.

Well this is interdasting.
I'm assuming having a hacked Pandora with no ads and unlimited skips won't make a difference right?
May switch back to T-Mobile next month. We'll see.

I've been thinking about jumping the ATT ship for a while. T-Mobile is really trying to win people over. I really like that.
I'm a little fearful about the coverage though.

Whoa....Apparently they send you an iPhone 5S (my daily driver) to test on their network for 7 days. I just signed up to get notification of when this will be ready. Thanks!

I did this very thing. It's been about 2 weeks. So far the coverage is not as good, but the fact that I have no contract, no data limits, free access to a premium app that helps me find my iPhone in case I lose it, and the customer service is just as good makes me very pleased so far.
So far, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Isn't it funny that while the terrestrial carriers are busy figuring out ways to throttle your data and charge you more, the wireless carriers are doing the exact opposite?

Does anyone use T-Mobile around BR or DS? I was going to try the Test Drive but if the service isn't very good then I may not even try.

This is exactly what I'm hoping for. I'm expecting the coverage to be a little worse than ATT but as long as it's not terrible I'm probably going to do it. I'll do the Test Drive once it's available.

yeah but I'm really loving ATT's LTE service. I plug my phone through HDMI into my big screen tv and watch all kinds of things on ATT. Better than my internet service.

I would switch to T-Mobile, but I don't get service inside of my office with them. It's a bummer, but I can't go without a cell phone for 8 hours a day.

I have Tmobile in BR. It's awesome. No regrets about getting away from Verizon. Unlimited everything, same price for a base Verizon package. No contract. But you do have to pay full price for the device.

It gets great coverage in BR and Denham, and where I live in Prairieville, they just started upgrading the network two days ago.

Opelousas to alexandria - you're fricked with service. 10 miles away from Alexandria to Dallas I had service pretty much all the way with hspa or lte.

Forgot to say that tmobile is now allowing you to try their network for 7 days. They give you an iphone5s for those seven days and then you have to return it

So basically if you don't use your phone for internet access on the road then you should be satisfied?
ETA: I think I'm going to start making a map of coverage area for T-Mobile and post it for our Tech Board use. I bet with all of our collaboration, this board could be very useful in helping people pick a cell carrier.
