Rand Paul: Moderates aren't GOP's future

DES MOINES, Iowa — Rand Paul said Saturday that Republicans need to nominate a different kind of candidate to win the presidency.
“You guys have a strong force here but frankly the president won Iowa twice so we can’t do the same old same old,” the Kentucky senator told the Iowa Republican state convention here. “The definition of insanity is thinking the same thing will get you different results.”
Paul said he wants Republicans “to be the dominant party again,” and noted that he’s been spending time in African-American areas and on college campuses trying to broaden the base. He said talking about the drug war and his emphasis on privacy resonates.
The likely 2016 candidate spent most of his 20-minute speech throwing red meat to the about 1,300 delegates at Hy-Vee Hall.

“There are people who say we need to be more moderate,” he said. “I couldn’t disagree more.”
“I think the core of our message: we can be even more bold,” he added. “When Ronald Reagan won a landslide, he ran unabashedly … that’s what we need … It isn’t about being tepid.”
Before his speech, Paul met with Iowa Republican Senate candidate Joni Ernst. He opened his speech with jokes about the campaign commercial in which she talked about castrating hogs as a kid on the farm.
“I can tell you the purveyors of pork are shaking in their boots and worried that Joni Ernst will win,” Paul said.

I have to say I agree with him very much. Weak and centrist moderates excite nobody. They're not interesting and people see them as phony and self serving.

I like Rand more and more everyday.
When my mom (voted Clinton twice, Bush twice, and laughs at Ron Paul) says that she really likes this Rand Paul guy, then I know he is on to something.
Not only do I think he can win the nomination, I'm starting to believe he is the favorite.

It's good to know he realizes he isn't the future

I'll never understand why the term "moderate" is classified as a bad thing to so many people. God forbid we think for ourselves and agree with some aspects of both parties.

It probably wouldnt be that big a deal if democrats werent so wildly leftist nowadays.

When the choice is between right and wrong, moderation is always wrong.

Define "moderate" in your view.

So who is The Future?

I don't even think of moderate that way. I see it more as an acknowledgement that however I choose to govern, I have to account for the 40-49.9% of people who don't agree with me. There are times for hard stands, but there is almost always room for reasonable compromise.

They've identified the wrong problem in the last two Presidential elections. It was a problem of weak candidates, not of being too centrist.

This is what you call hardcore?

I don't know, I was only operating on Rand's statement of moderates not being the future. I would ask him to clarify who is the future.

In this case, Moderation is better. Political Extremism is the problem. Too far right or too far left

I prefer not being stolen from to being stolen from a little bit.
