Well that's what he is on the depth chart.

Could view him as either considering the TE roll has evolved so much. Blurred line these days.

He sure as hell looks like a TE though. He was in my office two years ago and holy shite he is huge. Hard to understand how big he is until you see him in an everyday type setting where everyone looks like a midget beside him. Not just tall, BIG.

On the other hand, him playing in the slot or outside 67 percent of the time last season might gain him 5 million dollars

Brilliant move by the NFL and frankly it makes a valid point. Thats how he sees himself.

Brilliant?

Pretty low standard for brilliant.

I don't know about yall, but I tend to think a player should be tagged by the position he plays the most.

The NFL and the Saints teaming up to keep jimmy down. I thought the NFL hated the Saints.

The percentages are deceiving because he isn't a good blocker. If he improved on his craft and became a better blocker, he would be on the field more on the line.

So a backup OLineman who lines up as a TE on goaline packages should be paid as a TE by your logic.

If he plays at TE more than Oline during the season, then by the language in the CBA....most definitely

But then again your scenario has no value because no team is going to franchise tag a backup lineman.

Pay him as a WR, but when Pro Bowl and All Pro voting comes around, make sure that he's also classified as a WR.

Now, they're going to arbitration with one of the league's superstars to try and save $5 million.

Isn't this kind of a dumb statement since we all know they will spend the $5 million either way. It just depends on which player's pocket the money will go in.

Unused cap space can be rolled over to the next year, so that 5 mil could be big next season.

He plays TE 100% of the time. In today's NFL, TE's split out wide a large portion of the time.

No, he is classified as TE 100% of the time. There have been plays where he has played wide out and was never close to the line.

However, what your statement is arguing is that there should be a new tag for his new position.

If you are split out wide, you are no longer a tight end, by the prima facie definition of the term.

If Haloti Ngata lined up under center on offense most of the time, he isn't playing nose guard.
