Heading down for a day to help someone move and I'm going to try my luck again fishing around Ft Morgan for a few hours early in the morning.

I know it's been posted before but I can never seem to figure out where everyone is saying to fish on the point.

Planning on throwing a dead shrimp rig out while fishing a mirrolure or gulp on a smaller rod.

I fished here last time.

Farther toward the gulf? Farther toward the bay?

TIA

Don't over think it. Start out near the point on the gulfside. Fan cast 5 or 6 times, move twenty yards towards the bay, and repeat til you get down to the pier. Also, there are the remnants of an old pier sorta in front of the anchor. There may be some fish hanging out around there. Other key is to get there early.

Also, look for converging currents, and there can be a lot right there. If you can, try to fish on the rising or falling tide.

Artificial or dead shrimp?

I think dead, but thats only because it sorta opens up your possibilities. Redfish can smell that sucker a ways off. If nothings biting, then you can probably still get some ladyfish or something to tug on your line.

That said, I haven't tossed a vudu before.

Thats the honey hole.

I fished right where the currents met.

Dead shrimp, I think we only caught 2 on artificial gulp shrimp.

Egg sinker, walk out and chunk that bitch, wait about 3 seconds and hang on tight.

I will be on dauphin island next week, and thought about fishing GS with my son.
Are there places to park near where the X is on the map? Also is that a public beach?

Yes, there is a parking lot right next to the fort. It's probably about a 200-300 yard walk from the parking lot. It's not so bad, but last time I was there the beach was disgusting with june grass, driftwood, dead sharks and fish. I hope it has cleared out some.

How about the pier at the State park? Ever fished there?
I've surf fished Dauphin Island for the last 25 years, and it's very hit or miss. Not much tide or structure I guess. Never been to GS. Just wanted to put my little boy on a couple fish.

Just left there 2 weeks ago. I had a good friend there and didnt even know it until the last day. He launched at the same area you are talking about near the ferry. Took his boat across the point to some bait shop on the dauphin island side near pelican point, sorry cant remember the name, and loaded up on croakers. He stayed on the same side and theres a large green sign out there going towards the gulf IMPORTANT: He only goes between 11a-2p.... Free lining croaker and was catching avg specks 24", largest 28". Theres 2 sandbars, pull inbetween and throw basically on the beach. Hope this helps.
