The ship’s presence in the region “provides the commander-in-chief additional options to protect American citizens and interests in Iraq, should he choose to use them.” Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said in a statement.

Marines on amphibs train extensively on reenforcing embasseys under siege and rescuing Americans in war torn countries. If things continue going south in Iraq don't be surprised to see these guy go ashore.

If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

There's nothing more effective than a Marine when there's someone in the Navy to tell him what to do.

We were always grateful for the taxicab the navy was.

Having said that, the Navy medics attached to our unit went right up to the front with us, and got shot at with us. I have a lot of respect for Navy medics. Seals probably too, but I have no experience with Seals.

In conclusion:

If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

The third verse is always sang loudly. Shouted almost. Other branches of the service that we have saved always defer to us. :usa:

Spent time at Quantico, Lejeune, Cherry Point, and Beaufort. Never made it to Pendleton.

Dreamed of Marine Air prior to going Navy Surface Nuke ... because in the mid-90's ... well, didn't seem like there was anyone to fight. (good call, huh?) So ... why not see the world and be stationed at much nicer places?

Some of the finest men and women that I have served with have been Marines.

I have always been very proud to be part of the Navy-Marine Corps TEAM.

Nothing but absolute RESPECT for Our Corps.

I'm an old man. Relatively anyway. Desert Storm was a long time ago, and in the bigger picture of wars, it wasn't very long.

It's a young man's game. And something we can all agree on (hopefully) is that although I'm not a hero, the young men and women in harm's way are the greatest Americans to ever walk the face of the earth. Period. I see some National Guardsmen on occasion in the morning buying coffee. They will never have to pay if I'm there. What they are asked to do, and do, is something few people could ever imagine. Against the military action? Fine, you have that right. Against your young men and women in the armed forces? Leave.

Semper Fidelis

Today was bittersweet for me. After 14 years in the USMC I was officially sworn into the LA Air National Guard today.

Well, let's hope he isn't planning on invading a whole country with 550 guys.
