Steve Martin back for Father of the Bride 3..this time with a gay marriage twist

It seems appropriate that Nikki Finke brought news yesterday of the revival of another 90s franchise. But this time it doesn't involved monsters, superheroes, aliens or anything with blockbuster flair. Instead, Steve Martin is returning for Father of the Bride 3, a sequel to follow the first two film's from 1991 and 1995 respectively. However, Nancy Meyers won't be coming back to direct this time, and it will be the first two films' screenwriter Charles Shyer writing and directing the sequel. And this time, the story will have a relevant gay marriage twist with Martin's son Matty as the one getting married to the son of a US Navy Seal.
And for anyone who has seen the first Father of the Bride films, you can probably guess that George Banks (Martin) doesn't handle the news very well as a conservative, traditionalist. The father is "thunderstruck and speechless" about his son's revelation, so much that Nina (Diane Keaton) kicks him out of the house. In the first two films, Matty was played by a young Kieran Culkin, and enough time has passed that he could easily return in this role as an adult to play the role. We also hope Martin Short is able to return as the foreign Franck Eggelhoffer.

I would've rather seen a Franck marriage.

Where are my sequels to Space Jam and Independence Day?

Sounds original and fresh.
I bet they were in a bidding war with Adam Sandler over the script.

Save your money and just watch "In & Out" with Kevin Kline, Tom Selleck, Matt Dillon, and Joan Cusack.... among others.
I think Wilfred Brimley is in it, too.
Funny, and back when it was still ok to laugh at the gays....and they sorta had a sense of humor about themselves.

George Banks was just a traditional conservative family man.
But he's about to find out
That sometimes
Being a father
Means talking to your son about butt love.

$1 says that the we'll see a version of the "bun and weiner" rant that Banks got arrested for in the original.
The script just writes itself.

So every comedy with homosexual characters is the same? How would In & Out be similar to FotB 3?

Just make him Wallace from Scott Pilgrim again and I'll be down for this. It's the same actor who portrayed him as a kid, and we know he can do gay characters just fine. Don't make it all about being gay though and make him a character first.

I'm in as long as I get to watch Franck give George a "birds and the bees" talk about Matty's lifestyle choices

We need a little balance after all the conservative propaganda that's been flooding theaters this year.
God's Not Dead, Heaven is Real? Pure propaganda.

Why did you quote him but change the quote at the end?
