I have a great husband who is step dad to my kids and also has a son. My ex husband is also a good father. My husband stepson and I had brunch and we gave him gifts this morning. I went and purchased the gift my kids picked out for their dad and they are having dinner with him tonight. But I will not be see in my own father today nor putting pics of him with an homage on fb.

I call him on his birthday and Father's Day. I see him 2 hours a year at Christmas. We have nothing to talk about. I mean nothing.

In. My dad was a raging alcoholic and pill head and my childhood was often really fricked up because of it. His behavior continues to this day. As a result, my relationship with him as an adult is just...weird. It's not that I don't love the guy; I don't know how to explain it. He'll be receiving a text message and that's about it.

I have a FIL who is trending badly as he moves through his late 70s. I get to visit him this afternoon and make small talk.
It can be hard to be positive around him and supportive to him.
