Do you remember when the speed limit was 55?

I remember when the speed limit in the interstate was only 55. How bad did that suck?

How in hell did we ever get anywhere?

It sucked donkey balls. The only good thing about that time was that AIDS wasn't on the scene yet and speeding tickets were much easier to fix!

No. The long gas lines/rationing were while Nixon was President. Carter lowered the speed limit because he believed that it improved fuel economy and saved lives. Probably correct on both accounts and if the US were the size of NJ it would make sense.

There was actually two so-called gas shortages in the seventies. One during Nixon/Ford and the other during the Carter years.
