With a big fat check.

He is getting absolutely slayed in the entirety of world press, for his officiating yesterday.

Yeah, doesn´t help Croatia.

It is a shame that FIFA is more worried about integration instead of the integrity of the competition.

Shameful.

Everybody loses.

ETA: And that yellow card, really?

I just dont know. I love this game. This shite makes me shake my head. Just a disappointing start to, what should be a celebration of this great sport, a world cup.

Meh.

It angers me. More than it should. If calls like that continue, then for me this cup is ruined.

I actually think the opposite will happen. Refs will be much more concerned with making the wrong call, so they will air on the side of caution and not make calls that they probably should.

All the talking heads were worrying about to many penalties being given. I think it will go the other direction officials will be more reluctant to make the call, missed calls usually bring less black lash than horrible calls that are made.

He made a shifty call. Happens in every sport in every game. Yes, it cost a team a game but if this makes you suicidal, then you should just do yourself a favor and stop watching sports, because its not gonna stop until we have robot referees.

Now pull your tampons out and try to enjoy.

I'm surprised at the regular "soccer people" being surprised about this or acting like it's something new. Soccer games, often on the highest level, are consistently ruined by officiating.

It's easy to be frustrated with the officials but the players being bitches is the main problem and one that could easily be stopped.

same. and honestly, any sports fan should realize that this happens in every sport.

guy put his hand on his shoulder in the box as he's turning to attempt a shot. it was a terrible call, the ref had a terrible angle, but we see refs get fooled by that in every sport all the time. the idea that nishimura was paid off or fixed the match is silly but FIFA hasn't really done anything to combat the idea that everything is fixed (similar to the NBA).

nishimura probably isn't doing another match in the world cup which i'd imagine is a huge blow because that is the pinnacle of his profession. i'm sure he feels shitty about the call too.

i think Darke and Macca made everything worse by acting like that call and the GK foul were the worse calls ever. (well, Macca thinks nothing is a foul ) that foul on the GK call is made in probably every match and was so basic yet it took Darke about 5 minutes to mention that GKs are protected. that'd be like Jim Nantz acting like a blatant roughing the passer penalty in the Super Bowl was a terrible call. you are argue whether they should be protected that much, but the fact is they are under the rules.

I disagree. Olic got to the ball first and didn't touch Cesar til after he had headed the ball. It was another bad call.

Look, we know FIFA just cannot help but be incompetent.

The solution is simple. In the first game (and maybe 1st two or three) of every World Cup, use your most distinguished veteran officials. Why? Because there is extra pressure on everyone involved at the very start of a WC. Make sure you have the steadiest hands take care of the officiating to help ensure the best possible start to the biggest sporting event on Earth.
