My boy is 7 and is anxious to start hunting. I have let him sit in the stand with me and shot my rifle around. What is the best approach to get him involved? Training is a must at appropriate age, but should I start with a long rifle pellet gun or 22 to get the hang of shooting?

Any tips obliged?

i started with a pellet gun.. buy 22 would be fine as long as he understands safety and only uses it with you

Mine was shooting my AR when he was 5. Adjustable stock made it fit good. He also has a Thompson Hotshot single shot .22. Now I have an S&W 15-22 and he can just about shoot it better than I can.

Moral to the story is to just get out there and shoot.

I would start with a pellet rife like the Benjamin 392 .22 Caliber Carbine. That what my father gave me thirty year ago and I still user it thin out the squirrel population in my back yard.
