Women told to go outside only "if absolutely necessary."

quote:

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Shams (Isis) has imposed a strict set of Sharia laws on the citizens of Nineveh province just days after capturing the provincial capital of Mosul.

In a document circulating on social media attributed to the group, Isis warned tribal leaders and sheikhs not to "work with [the Iraqi] government and be traitors" while proclaiming that women should only go outside if absolutely necessary.

"For women, dress decently and wear wide clothes. Only go out if needed," read the document as translated by Al Aan TV reporter Jenan Moussa.

Why? It's a copy-and-paste from the article. It's verbatim.

I agree, because these animals are an insult to everyone who lived during the Medieval times, and the Dark Ages for that matter.

I was listening to NPR this morning, and the "expert" they had commenting on this situation was basically describing this as simply religious in-fighting between sunnis and shias.

Technically, it is, but it really downplays what the ultimate goal is for groups like these: the establishment of a regional (or even worldwide) Islamic caliphate. ANY government (both secular and other forms of Islam) is viewed as an apostate that must be destroyed and re-integrated as part of the unified caliphate.

It's NPR. They don't understand shite about any religion that isn't Gaea-worship and they certainly don't want to bring attention to the shite hitting the fan over there because Barry isn't taking Baghdad's 3AM calls.

Because it's an extraordinarily misused term used to say "backwards". I'm guessing he wouldn't start an article about tenure "medieval university tenure".

He's an idiot, then.

Right, it's nothing more than akin to silly quibbling between the Methodists and Presbyterians over proper potluck protocols.

I have never understood this why in the world would you want women to wear clothes?

This is a culture which denies the concept of taking responsibility for their actions and will point at women dressed in Western outfits as "uncovered meat", which makes them responsible for being raped by Muslims.

In modern western civilization, Sharia Law is considered backwards.

I dunno. Does the university tenure system have its origins in the Medieval period? Because Sharia Law has its origins in the Medieval period, so I think that why the author used the term.

I really don't care what those dipshits do over there as long as they keep it over there. They can treat their women like shite if they want to, but don't tell me this is a religion of peace and respect.

Yes, which is why I used that example.

I know, but he's using "medieval" to say it's backwards, implying that everything from that period is backwards, including things like tenure, hospitals, etc. It's idiotic.

I don't get that at all. I think he's using the term because Sharia Law dates back to the Medieval period.
