Im a senior at LSU in a bs degree. I might change to Human Resources and it would take me 2 years. Is this a good career field. Salary wise, hours wise, coworkers wise? I was a film major, but that wont work out.

Hr at lsu is an offshoot of management so even if you don't find anything in hr you still have a management degree.

Way better than Film.

Are you a woman? Do you like generating make-work in order to justify your existence? If so, then HR may be for you.

If you're close to finishing and have an interest in HR, this is a rare instance where I might recommend considering L&E law.

I'd much rather advise on employment matters than deal with the absurdity of bureaucratic HR. Most HR departments I worked with are filled with very dull folks imposing absurdly dumbed-down rules on even dumber folks.

If you think the following is a challenging interview question, you're probably well suited to be an HR manager:

"if you found a wallet with 50 bucks in it, would you A) turn it in B) take the money and leave it there C) keep the wallet and the money"

Hey, why did I get fired. All I did was run over some gas pumps in the company truck then take out an ATT box knocking out service to thousands of customers. So what that I fricking tested positive for cocaine less than two hours after. This is bullshite. Imma buy me a lawyer and sue y'alls asses you racist muthafrickers!

True story. He did attempt to sue for wrongful termination and discrimination.

Edit: I'm in safety and used to share an office with an HR person. I heard stories like that all the time.

I wish there were more educated HR Managers in the workforce today. I get a lot of questions that they should know and some ask me the same questions over and over again. Here's some good ones for you:

This employee was fired last week. He wasn't enrolled in any benefits. Do I offer him COBRA?

What is the difference between COBRA and State Continuation?

Can an employee who declines medical coverage during initial enrollment enroll next month?

This employee quit last week and is on our property right now demanding to receive a copy of his employee file. Can he do that?

I have an employee who just moved from Parttime to fulltime, when can he enroll in the medical plan?
