Question about Something About Mary- what happened to her real dad?

Did it ever address in the movie what came of Mary's real father? Did she have daddy issues? She always seemed to be fairly attracted to losers, and didn't want Farvra, who by all accounts was a keeper. Maybe the daddy issues were in reverse, meaning creepers could sense a void that needed filling, further escalating their passion towards a good All-American gal.

Her father thought there was something about Mary as well. He was doing 15-25 up state. It is in the director's cut, which is much darker.
