I watched it the other night not expecting much and and left very satisfied with my choice. This is Infamous does a great job explaining why everyone should see it and the link should hit home with plenty on the board.

LINK

TL;DR

quote:

Here is a film with a strong female character, a respectable internal logic, well shot, effecting combat scene’s, and a full arc for a fully developed character. It had some wonderful visuals, an interesting take on an alien invader a decent collection of supporting actors, with enough of a character to get stuck into you can feel for them and it didn’t use excessive filters, spinning camera trickery or bad editing. Here was a really terrific SF film, and if it passes unnoticed, if it flops, it might be a while before another one comes by.

quote:

The trailer set up the concept, without spoiling the whole damn movie. I though that was what we wanted? Trailers that don’t just outline the entire thing in one go? Because I promise you, there are numerous details, big and small, that the trailer never touches. People cannot be pleased.

quote:

And this is the most important point. If EDGE OF TOMORROW really does badly, there’s less chance you’ll get a smart, effective SF blockbuster again. If you want to see a film where people have put more thought into the script than they have into the inevitable toy line, go and see EDGE OF TOMORROW....Most importantly, if you really, really, do think big budget Hollywood is going down the pan and you’re quite sick of TRANSFORMERS, and paranormal teen romance drivel, and the latest pandering Mary-sue characters, shaky cam visuals where nothing can be made out, and films made for (and quite possibly by) twelve year olds with ADHD, and movies where the commercial tie-ins, toy-lines, video-games and product placement take up more time and money than the movie itself, for the love of god go see EDGE OF TOMORROW.

Reason I won't see it...

Tom Cruise

Yup, I am that petty as to not see a movie because I despise an actor in it. Put ANYONE else in that role and I'd have been all over the movie, but I just can't do it.

honestly, will we be talking about Edge of Tomorrow next year? probably not, but it's an original concept done well and it's pretty fun.

Some might say they want a laugh and go see A Million Ways to Die... and be disappointed, but you won't be disappointed in this movie.

They address that in the article which apparently I can't access anymore. Basically said if you don't see it because Tom Cruise's personal life turns you off, you're not a movie fan and you need to put down the gossip rags.

Agree 100% hate Cruise but he has done some good movies to miss them to spite him is just stupid

I agree. i saw it over the weekend. i couldn't quite wrap my head around the ending, but after coming here and reading the thread about it, some of the theories made sense.

it was a great movie. the tom cruise death montage even provided some comic relief.

I think it's strange to hate an actor you've never met and know nothing about except through some interviews. His movies are usually entertaining and he's a solid actor who gives good effort in every role.

after watching, i'm pretty sure I wouldn't want anyone BUT Tom Cruise for that role. fantastic movie, and Cruise was top notch in it.

get past the extracurricular and take it for what it is...a thought-provoking, futuristic action movie with the added bonus of emily blunt.

Why? Because of his personal life?

Otherwise, I can't really understand why you'd hate him. He doesn't make many bad movies.

Yeah, I think it's dumb to avoid movies from Gibson, too.

Agreed the man is still one of the best actors on the planet. Can't take that away from him.

His role in Tropic Thunder helped wash away the initial distaste I had for him after he went a little crazy.

Was your wife pregnant at the time he and Brook Shields had their throw down over postpartum depression? Because I can see a hormonal wife making you take a blood oath to never see anything with Tom Cruise in it again in that situation. Outside of that, you're just being silly and denying yourself something you might like all the while not actually hurting a guy who already has more money and power than he'll ever know what to do with.

I saw it last night in IMAX. It brought some funny, it brought some really cool aliens (those things were well fricking done and terrifying), a decent enough story, and some more funny.

It was definitely worth the $14.50. Emily Blunt...I'm not in the she's so hot camp, but I did want to grab her booty in this one.

"If you don't see this film, you will be forced to watch banal, crappy superhero movies forever"

Yeah, whatever. I was going to see it. Now I'm not.
