The following is a rumor/spoiler from LatinoReview that claims it knows some minor spoilers for Ep 7 and what happened in the Galaxy after Return of the Jedi:

Now this is pretty interesting. We all know that they are completely jettisoning the EU stuff, and this confirms they are completely getting rid of it all. It kind of sounds like the galaxy is kind of a Wild West situation now, with no centralized government.
It also raises the issues:
Really, no end game or plan is ever explained by the Rebel Alliance in any of the movies. They never say what they REALLY hope to accomplish in the long run.
Presumably, the Empire did not bring its entire fleet to Endor, so that would only be a small portion of their forces. And the Rebels DID bring basically their entire fleet to Endor. So while they killed the Emperor and Vader, they did not destroy the entire Empire.
I think the fact that there is no New Republic adds some pretty serious intrigue as to their direction with this new one. I like it.

nothing more than being a terrorist organization and disrupt the status quo not unlike Osama Bin Laden.
They got lucky that Vader decided to have a heart.

If true I like it and it's certainly believable, probably not exactly easy to unite so many planets especially with some being screwed over by the Empire and those still loyal.
Definitely would add some unknown to wtf were Han and Leia doing for 30 years. Luke i'm assuming is still a given that he went off to learn more Jedi Secrets and find pupils.

It's like the French Revolution but I don't want to give George Lucus that much credit

I read that same article last night and those are all speculations/guesses on his part. I believe he pretty much says as much.

I can see this going one of two ways
Either 1. The celebration we saw at the the end of ROTJ was the rest of the galaxy celebrating after they banded together and hunted down all or all but a few of the Empires remnants down or 2. They kill the leadership/HQ and now spend the next 30 years trying to chase it down and start forming some smaller alliances. Maybe the new threat emerges just as the old one disappears - similar to how the Trade Federation was being wiped out with the Clones and the Empire was being formed.
