Is it just me or is the World Cup getting zero mainstream media attention? I haven't even seen a new Nike ad campaign like they usually do.

Anyone agree with me? If so, why is it lacking this year?

Side note: didn't know want to post this on the OT because I wanted input of soccer fans.

Actually, I've noticed quite a bit, but it has been primarily on the sports channels.

It will pick up in the next few days as it begins. I have seen a bunch of brands doing World Cup campaigns etc. I think America's biggest athlete being in the NBA Finals at the same time will draw some attention away at the start though.

I've seen very very little promotion of this year's tournament as opposed to the last few.

ESPN has been airing commercials daily, they've had the 30 for 30 that has followed the U.S. team for the past month or so, and they've had the Beats by Dre and Nike commercials.

I've seen a lot of stuff for it but maybe that's cause I come here a lot and we're already talking about it.

I agree.

Maybe it's cause I don't really watch ESPN anymore.

I don't know about TV because I seldom watch ESPN but here in NY there's World Cup fever everywhere.

Well there's your answer.

ESPN has the rights, therefore its family of networks, and ABC will be promoting it.

I don't think NBC really wants to discourage viewers from its coverage The Biggest Loser, to promote a sporting event on a rival network.

Hell I walked into a CVS in a upper middle class part of San Antonio and they were selling USA and Mexico World Cup related stuff right at the front.

For like a week and a half straight, ESPN Classic aired notable friendly and WC qualification matches.

How many short futbol documentaries did ESPN air in the last few months? Like three or four, right?

ESPN has also done a mini-series with Inside: March to Brazil.

Either today or tomorrow ESPN is airing a short documentary on the freaking Brasil team.

Tomorrow at 3:30, ESPN has a World Cup preview show airing.

All this with the NBA playoffs/Finals taking place and College Baseball/Softball -- which ESPN also has rights to.

I think they've done a stellar job.

This might actually be one case where the interests of the networks are aligned. A successful World Cup for ABC is likely to benefit NBC in the long term. Same goes for Fox.

I was going to mention cane's. also, McDonald's is having some kind of giveaway. And so many commercials on espn. Have you been watching the NCAA tournament? They have at least 5 commercials a baseball game.

I'm in NY and haven't seen much.

I guess it's just me then. Guess I'm blind.
