If the Heat keep the "Big 3"

For another 3-4 years, how many NBA Titles will they win? I believe they win this year, and if they keep them together for the time frame listed above, I think they finish with 5 overall.

If Wade is getting the same amount of money and eating that cap space in 2-3 years, they won't be winning NBA titles.

I think they go for 4 in a row next year then break it up.

i think it all depends on the supporting cast brought in. This year they are not very deep. They are depending on lebron to do it all. I just think it depends on the role players they have on the team the next couple of years. Battier is leaving, hasslem and lewis are OLD. ray allen isnt getting any younger... just depends.

I think they would only win one more after this year assuming the big 3 stay on max contracts. Wade is towards the back end of his career and is just not a max player anymore IMO.

I'm thinking next year will be it.

I'm not sure they can win another one as is. Battier is retiring and Chalmers is likely gone. (not a big deal) They need to add another group of discount players. Bosh and Wade should not be commanding max contracts. If they restructure allowing them to add a few more pieces, they can easily win another 2-3. All that said I have zero clue how basketball contracts work and am not even sure restructuring is even possible.

I think Bosh already said he would take less money to stay. Wade will be the issue. He wants a Kobe contract. They shouldn't even consider anything in that range. Pat Riley will hard ball him though IMO

He's out of his mind if this is true. 19/4/4 is not worth a max contract. He had a chance to prove himself when Lebron went down. He couldn't hit a shot to help his team and they folded.

Big 3 each have a player option for next year. Technically one or all of them can opt out and sign a new 1 year deal at a discounted rate, but that won't happen. It would also make zero sense for only one of them to sign at a discount. Say Bosh opted out and signed for $10 million next year. That still wouldn't allow them to add any better pieces than they can already add by way of the MLE or the vet minimum. Their cap number would still be too high because of the players under contract. They would all have to take substantial discounts.
It just doesn't look like a viable setup past next year.

If anything, Bosh deserves max money over someone like Wade. Bosh is still a top PF/C, and would be harder to replace than Wade IMO.

Actually, that part of the equation is secondary to the Heat, with it likely requiring an exodus by two of the Big Three to again begin working with cap space, something the team last did in the eventful 2010 offseason. What matters for the Heat is a commensurate rise in the luxury-tax threshold, the mechanism that cost the team Mike Miller last summer and threatened even more potential damage this coming offseason.
This past season, the tax threshold was set at $71.7 million. The tax line for next season now is expected to fall at $77 million. The Heat's 2013-14 payroll was $83.5 million.
Should the Heat again operate above the tax threshold, they would move into the onerous "repeater" tax, with any payroll above the tax threshold taxed at at least $2.50 for each $1 spent. (As a matter of perspective, re-signing impending free agent point guard Mario Chalmers for next season at his current $4 million would cost at least $14 million in actual cash outlay if into the "repeater" tax).
Even at $77 million, the increased tax threshold offers no easy answers, when factoring in that by bypassing their June 30 early-termination deadlines, the combined salaries for LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade are $61 million for 2014-15.
Beyond that, Udonis Haslem has a player option for $4.6 million, Norris Cole is due $2 million and Chris Andersen has an option for $1.5 million.
By that math, $69 million is accounted for by six players. By rule, teams must account for 13 salary slots. Filling in with minimum salaries, the Heat could barely stay below the tax. And while there annually have been quality players looking for championship shots even at the minimum, it hardly is the best way to replace the likes of Chalmers, Ray Allen and Shane Battier.
quote:
As a repeat taxpayer, the Heat will be facing the highest incremental tax rates in NBA history. If, for example, the luxury-tax threshold is established at $75 million -- a highly optimistic gain of roughly $5 million from this season -- the Heat could be faced with a tax bill approaching $48 million. In total, they would be paying $141.3 million for 12 players.

If I'm Wade, no way am I opting out those final two years.

Thats why the Spurs need to win this year. Break the Heatles band up early b/c its only downhill from here.

Just how are teams with higher payrolls making it with this threshold?
