Noll presents evidence: salaries of colleges presidents risen 108% since 1985. For football coaches? 512% increase #NCAAtrial
quote:
Noll: Since NCAA rules prohibit payment to players, the money flows to lavish coach salaries, etc. It's called "inefficient substitution."
quote:
2009, the NCAA had a task force - of course they did - on commercialism. Here are two things they concluded:
quote:
2. "While participating is to be an avocation for students, college sports as an enterprise is a professional undertaking for everyone else"
1. Commercialism should be "embraced"
Day 2
quote:
Hausfeld turns to fact that Olympics moved away from amateurism requirement in 1980s.
quote:
And what has happend to Olympics since they allowed athletes to get paid? Noll: "They're much more popular."
quote:
Also agrees with statement presented that NCAA rules prevent weak teams from improving
quote:
Noll: giving athletes more $ would not kill college sports. Also doubts they will leave DI. #NCAAtria
quote:
Noll: Schools would provide more scholarships if NCAA rules did not set limits on them.

A bunch of college coaches might be trying to jump to the pros if this plays out like people think.

Definition of cartel: "an asociation of firms that explicitly agrees to coordinate its activiies, typically to maximize joint profits."
Noll: "The NCAA is a cartel that creates a price-fixing agreement among member schools." #NCAAtrial
quote:
Hausfeld points out that NCAA's star economist, Daniel Rubinfeld, had called NCAA a cartel in the past.
quote:
Not good for NCAA that their own economist agreed with plaintiffs. Will be interesting to see how they respond when Rubinfeld testifies
Dis gon b gud

I'm on Team O'Bannon
Me, too, because I hate NCAA Football 2013, et seq. So glad O'Bannon and these lawsuits ended that useless franchise of a game.
ETA: Am so glad they will market players as professionals instead of amateurs. Let O'Bannon and all other athletes have to pay taxes fn?or receiving scholly's, meals, free gear, tudors, etc. That is going to be expensive. Should colleges receive a portion of future profits scholly athletes receive, even if not related to athletics? After all, without the education, would those athletes have been able to earn?

Only reason Ed Obannon is doing this is because he is broke and needs money.
Posted on 6/10/14 at 12:12 pm to BamaHater
You have any evidence of this?
Posted on 6/10/14 at 12:15 pm to Stringer Bell
Why else would he be doing it?
Posted on 6/10/14 at 12:18 pm to RonnieBass
Maybe he wants to own his own identity just like you.

Obviously.
One of the biggest busts in NBA history and now he has nowhere else to turn. Completely ungrateful for being given a degree from one of the top institutions in the United States and too lazy to use it.
TPOS.

Guess I haven't been paying attention to college football this summer.
What is this about?
What is this about?
Posted on 6/10/14 at 12:28 pm to Stringer Bell
I highly doubt he has this case to uphold the greater good of collegiate athletes.

First of all, it's tutors. Tudor is a style of house and a royal family of Welsh Origin.
Secondly, how much do you think the tax will be on that sort of thing? They are also in-kind benefits and much of that will not be taxed. Add in the standard deductions, EITC, etc. they won't be paying much if anything.

EO suing NCAA for using his likeness without permission fair compensation.
Posted on 6/10/14 at 12:32 pm to RonnieBass
Doesn't matter. I can't wait for IRS to send NCAA a back taxes owed letter.

You have any evidence of this?
I found this funny on his Wikipedia page
quote:
He decided to retire at age 32 after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.[citation needed] When he made his decision, he was in the process of trying out for a team in China but realized he had no more motivation to play the game.[3] Furthermore, the people holding the tryouts had never even heard of him.[10]
