Is the world getting worse or is there just more coverage on horrible events?

Also, population increase means more horrible people in the world right? Technology has also made people more cold now and distant. We don't need connections with other people as much.

Does the human race as a whole have a thirst for money/power more than ever because now everyone has access to endless information to make ourselves more self aware and intelligent?

Human beings have always been capable of horrible things.

and this is quite backwards

with technology, we are constantly connected with others

I don't really see the correlation between these two things.

Yes, but also more nicer people in the world so it's a wash.

We always need connections. That's human nature. Whether or not the need for connection is being fulfilled in this techno-world we live, that is up for debate.

Yes, but there are different levels of connection. A lot of the important subtleties of communication is lost among Facebook posts and text messages.

Through an electronic filter. Nothing beats real human interaction for teaching social skills.

and with those different forms, new subtleties are created

through a screen monitor and texts? Walk into any social setting now and half the people are too busy looking at their phones to enjoy whats going on around them.

I don't have Facebook but I noticed friends that have it and live away, no longer know me. It's as if your not on Facebook you no longer exist.

I ponder this all the time when I'm reading the news or anything on the net. I think it's a little bit of both to be honest. We basically have computers attached to our hips now a days telling us every single current event going on around the world.

just a different form

whether or not it is better or worse is just opinion

Which is a shame, but it probably proves you weren't that good of friends with them in the first place.

seriously it is hard for me to understand anyone that believes the world is getting worse

we live in the safest time ever for humans

just think about all the mass genocides and wars of the past

i will disagree on this one. The bad 5% are why we have so many laws/rules in society. I would imagine they commit a very disproportional amount of crimes--or at least the awful ones we see on the news now-- than the other 95%. So as the population grows, so does this group. Doesn't matter how many nice people there are, they don't stop these bottom 5%ers
