I'm getting back into a regular workout routine, and I'm using this calculator to get an idea of how much weight my frame will support. One of the inputs is a body fat %, and I'm mostly clueless as to what a "good" % is for someone who's working out regularly. I'm not in any organized sports, just trying to get in shape and workout on the regular. What body fat % should I realistically aim for?

I'm near 10%. It's hard to do, though.

If you get below 15%, you'll be below almost everyone except serious endurance athletes and competitive bodybuilders.

BTW, unless you get it done in a laboratory, BF% measurements are notoriously inaccurate.

Yeah, I was spitballing 18-20% from a health class several years ago I'm figuring 15% and lower is beyond what I'm realistically aiming for

One of my best friends does physique competitions and you can pretty much see every vein in his body. I hate going to the gym with him because you can see every striation in his shoulders when he lifts anything. He's around 5% even in between shows.

If you get to 10% people will ask you if you do steroids.

If you eat like shite but workout all the time don't expect to get past 15%. Anything under 15% requires serious dieting.

Under 15 is pretty solid for a guy. Under 10 is getting into seriously good shape.

I got the same problem. I'm 8% like most OTers but all the measuring devices say I'm 28%

Best shape of my life I was at 12ish and that was right after high school. I'd say anything under 20 is pretty damned good for a grown man.

But for real the technician for the bodpod told me I'd have to lose weight if I wanted the % to go down. I gave him the are you nuts look. At the time I was a 163lbs and I'm 6 feet tall with a defined 6 pack. I just walked out shaking my head.
