Play:3 and a sub. sounds fantastic in the kitchen. the sub is clean. Will definitely be expanding to the master bathroom and the back patio later this year.

Glad it worked out for you. We have a few of the connect systems for inside and outside. We absolutely love them. Will be expanding with a few other dedicated Sonos speakers over the next few months for some of the other rooms.

Love my sonos. I've got it hooked up to speakers in the ceiling throughout the house and on the back porch. Recently got a play1 to use out front when the kids are playing. I am impressed with the sound that little thing makes

What are some of the better music aps?
I've been using 8 track, pandora, and radiomony. I had a username/password for mog but it doesn't work after they were bought by beats

spotify is nice. on phones, you can pick the artist and album and listen to it shuffled. on desktop and tablets, you can listen to the album in order or specific songs individually. free with ads. Or, you can sign up for the non-ad version.

i've been thinking about doing a music setup throughout the house, or at least in portions. Could you give some details of your setup (devices, how they are connected, etc.)?

We prewired speakers in the ceiling throughout the house when we built. I've got all of the wires running into a "media closet" which is basically a small room under the stairs.

The wires run into the receiver (denon--unsure what model but it does have 2 zones). Also in the closet is the cable box, bluray player, sonos. I've got a speaker channel switch in there also so I can turn speakers on and off from there (ie if we're partying downstairs and I don't want to wake up the kids upstairs). I can also control volumes of individual speakers using a knob on the wall of each room.

I have a sub hidden in a cabinet of the "keeping room" which is off the kitchen (the only room with true surround sound) that runs wirelessly from the receiver.

I have a sensor next to the tv in the keeping room that beams everything to the media closet so everything is hidden

What components would you need to build a system from scratch? Are the Connect parts what they use for that? Or do you need an existing system? Their non-video parts of the site aren't very detailed as to what each piece does.

---I think I see it, you just use a smart device as your head unit, like Chromecast/Plex/etc.

Let me first say that I'm no audiophile and had the geek squad set everything up initially.

I've got everything running through my receiver, including the sonos. I initially bought the bridge and connect which allowed me to run the sonos throughout the house. I later bought the play1 speaker that can be used with the other speakers or independently
