Best way to keep crabs alive?

Is the ice down/drain method used for crawfish sufficient for crabs as well?

Just keep them cool and let the water drain. you can put them on top of the ice as long as they don't get submerged. Also, put a wet towel on top of them will help as well.

Always iced em down and let the water drain. A coma-toast crab can't hold its breath.

These guys are correct.
You could always don a pair of garden gloves and pet them on the stomach. It does make them a bit nippy, though.
