Germans. Sorry guys
==========
LINK

Pretty amazing slideshow.

How do you even begin to fix the situation there and give them a fresh start?

I feel like a whole bunch of land needs to be zoned out of development and roads/utilities deconstructed to let nature take back a lot of the city without the Chernobyl-like spookiness.

Detroit just needs to be a smaller town.

Hard to believe it was the place to live for much of the 20th century.

What a cluster. And this just tracks the last 5 or so years.

70% of New Orleans looks just like this.

ps - at least they've demo'd the blighted houses and just left empty lots for the most part. That's a start.

You still have neighbors. They just don't actually own or rent the place.

I find it tempting that average middle class people can basically buy a city block or maybe 10 lots for next to nothing in a major urban area. It's like buying in the middle of North Dakota as or Wyoming, but you're in a major city as a pioneer on your own.

I wish I were single and could do shite like that.

Tax bills are still relatively huge (Property tax not tied to the amount paid for, but what the assessor says it's worth). That's just one of the many clusterfricks that exist in Detroit. Hardly anyone pays property taxes because the yearly tax bill is typically higher than they could sell the house for.

Also, you'll have squatters and shite to deal with constantly. The cops are not going to help you. Good luck "defending" your property against a multitude of armed crackheads every day.

One day im going to save up like $50, go out and by 100 acres of what once was prime realestate, build a high wall around it all and live like a king.

When I was in school we considered playing real life monopoly with Detroit. But taxes are the issue.
